Hey guys,

I'm not sure if this is the right section but i was just wondering if anyone else has experienced a perfectly circular scratched disc from your Xbox, heres my story.

I was playing mw2 and i moved my Xbox to put in the Ethernet cable and heard this grinding and checked my disc and theres a perfectly circular scratch in it I nearly cried.

Its also happened with 2 other of my games do they still have the same problem with the new xboxs? it just shits me that you have to pay $100 because microsoft cant do a thing right with anything they make, does this happen with ps3?

Toothpaste trick? i dunno... save it to your HD as soon as you get the disk, that way you can still play it if its scratched.

This has only happened to me when my brother kicked over my xbox whilst playing. Rule of thumb wrist "Don't move the xbox while the disc is spinning."

My PS2 destroyed a bunch of my games. Since it was under warranty, I managed to get Sony to repair them at no cost to me.

The problem I have is I paid extra for 12months disc insurance and that was about 4-5 months ago but I cant find the reciept so I'm probly just going to trade a whole bunch of games that I dont play in for it.

Yeah I bought the warranty thing too, but of course this disc will never scratch. Although if it does it'll make a great clay pigeon.

My Mrs bought me a 360 for Christmas about 5 years ago, pretty much when it first came out..I got Oblivion with it and was mega excited about getting my teeth into it. I decided to try turning the 360 on its side to make more room in our TV cabinet, whilst the game was running...cue horrible grinding noise, big circular scratch, and one very pissed off big kid...

Don't know if you have this service in America (I'm guessing that's where you're from) but my friend did the same to his on xbox and said that blockbuster can repair the disc for a LOT less than buying a new one. Probably worth enquiring about.

Many times the scratch is too deep for repair. However, yes this is something that can be considered.

Ed! I'm from Australia, When i start working ill probly just fuck up my xbox and buy a ps3 and be done with it.

Microsoft cant even make a good console, they have a rich nerd behind them and they still cant do a thing right, Xbox is increadibly useless with the red ring and all so many people i know have to put a spare disc in the drive because it wont open withought a disc in it even mine and then the rip off price of xbox live ps3 is free and the the xbox wireless mics are overprice and dont last the fact you cant move your console with a game in it. and the circular scratch even happened with mine when i move houses when it wasnt even turned on Bill Gates can suck my new ps3 when i get it.

You should be able to just go to the store and have them search for the receipt. I also have the same problem. I have MW2 saved on my HD so I can still play :-/. My bf's xbox scratched the disc though and he didn't have is saved to his HD because he erased it for space. So he snatched my disc of course and I'm sure that one will also be scratched soon if it isn't already.

I just bought my first 360 and I I vaguely remember a very distinct notice. Can't remember if it was a sticker on the console or paperwork inside the box but it said to never move the console while a disk was inside... I had this happen to some games with the ps2, never again!

fyi u still need the disk to boot the game its not 100%.

Get a ps3 which never touches the disk

yes you still need the disk but it can be completely scratched and it will still work if you play from the HDD

Never had disk problems witb ps3, I did ruin my friends mw2 for xbox by shaking it when it was running lol

A side-moral of this story: DO NOT PICK UP A DISC DRIVE AND TIP IT ON IT'S HEAD WHILST THE DISC IS WHIRRING ROUND AT LIKE 500 RPM


It SHOULD (and indeed does on virtually every device ever apart from the xbox 360 because it's... well, microsoft) load levels etc much faster but the 360 is specifically programmed (for some reason which I can't remember) to load games SLOWER if they're installed to the HDD.

It SHOULD be a security measure, i.e. if you ever lose your disc or it breaks then don't fear you have the game saved to your HDD - HOWEVER I believe (and I don't have a 360, I simply read this when the software update came out that let you first install games to your HDD) that, for anti-piracy reasons, even if the game is installed on the HDD you still have to have the disc in the disc tray in order to launch the game. Maybe this has been addressed in a subsequent update?

also last thing i need to know.

i installed my friends mw2 to my hdd with his console and it said you need to play it on the console you installed it on. so i deleted it but can you install it off someone elses disc on your consol on your hdd buy yous ur disc to play it off the hdd. i hope so or ill just eff my xbox off and get a ps3
