Default What is a Hit-marker?

Hey Everyone,
I've been playing heaps of team death-matches lately and Heaps of people with headsets keep saying "Ohh I have a hitmarker" or "AWW F**K him, he's got a hitmarker."

I was like WTF?

Does anyone actually know what a hitmarker is?

They're the X that appears on your crosshair when you hit someone, and "having/getting" one usually means you hit someone and they lived.

A hitmarker is the little X that appears when you hit somebody, so a hitmarker is a hit but not a kill.

Annoying hitmarkers including with the SPAS and Intervention and both these guns have a low RPM so taking the next, killing shot takes a second.

Firstly mate, seeing as you've taken it upon yourself to label me a 'noob' on a few occasions i'd like you to take a long hard look at yourself before you go insulting anyone in future, especially if you have to ask such a simple question about the game mechanics.
And in the interests of burying the hatchet and being nice, a hitmarker is when the game registers that your shot has made contact with your enemy but for whatever reason the shot was not powerful enough to kill them.
There are many reasons this might happen but it usually annoys people when they expect to get a one hit kill (for example if they make a headshot with a sniper rifle) but only get a hit marker.

edit: Ninja'd by Dante and Serval, bloody hell

Whats RPM?

I get hitmarkers when I'm shooting at someone, like 1 second before they die.

For what it's worth, it's a hit marker even if you kill them, it's just that people only complain about them when they're not fatal hitmarkers.

Also, when you get a hit marker, it makes a sort of 'popping' sound as the bullet hit the enemy.

By fatal I meant a hit marker (or hit markers) that kill the enemy.

E.G. A sniper shot to the head would be a 'fatal' hit marker as it's a one hit kill.

RPM is round per minute, i.e. how fast a weapon fires.

Generally the word hitmarker is only used to refer to hits that didn't result in a kill with was expected. Hence the rage which often accompanies them.

That's ^^^ for describing the frequency of revolutions e.g. in an engine.

In this context the "R" is definitely for rounds.

Oh and Rac, maybe you'd find this thread a useful read? The MW2F Acronyms List

what I meant was the wide term RPM is a shortening of Revolutions per minute and not rounds, but it doesn't matter ~

Wow, you use the Intervention and don't know what hit-makers are? Also, I suggest not using Hardline. Stopping Power > all.
