Look at all the things that were going to be in the game, the coding for dedicated servers was right in the game as well, including mod support, but it looks like a lot of this had a CoD4 skin so it was early in development (Probably mid-2008 or so) when Activision went in and took a shit on the PC side of the game.

Notables:
  • IWNet wasn't going to be Steam-backed
  • Salvage was already going to be on the disk
  • LAN Party, which was, ironically, dropped to reduce piracy
  • 4 killstreaks (Thank god this was removed)
  • Intricate perk customization (wut)
  • "Double UAV" and (lol) Better Helicopter
  • Mods
  • Chopper Gunner with the Mk. 19 (Remember Shock and Awe from CoD4? The heli-mounted grenade launcher? This would be more game-breaking than the MP40)

Everything that everyone wanted was and still is already in the game.

Consensus: Fuck you Activision.

Veeeeery interesting, this does seem to point to the theory that IW were doing it their way before Activison moved in and made them change it all. and considering the fairly drastic change made I guess this could easily have caused the friction which led to the IW/Respawn split.

However, there is very little point in dwelling on the past, and what could have been. Therefore, I'm waiting on Treyarch for when they screw up Black Ops.
