Default Knife Question

I don't know about anybody else, but I really don't like the knife in Call of Duty. I refrain from using it as much as possible, only knifing when i'm completely out of ammo.

So, my question. Do any of you agree that making the knife a 2 slash kill would be more realistic? I don't know, I just think it would be better. Tell me what you think.

No.
To me once commando has gone it will be ok.
Yes the knife is arguably OP but as for realism....it is quite realistic to be able to kill someone with one knife attack and equally realistic to be able to survive two attacks. I think it is fine as a ohk.

I doubt that anyone would favour destroying game balance even further because you don't care about it.

Don't mind it being a OHK, since when you sneak up to a group of 2-3 with their backs to you, its advantageous to take out two of them silently. Then you can serve the third lead salad. OHK is good here since you can dispatch them quickly and without making a racket. Its not the knife that bothers me its the lunge.

If it HAD to be a two slash kill, I'd say it should be a two slash kill up front, but a one slash kill from behind.

It doesn't really matter though, since the knife will always be there and people are so dependent on it. People will actually risk a bigger chance of being killed and run a few feet towards you to knife you than just blasting you away with their primary.

Reduce the range.

Simply removing the ability to use the melee "charge", and leaving just the "slash", would work best IMO.

FYI, "charge" reaches 128 inches of measurement and will auto-target anything in the center half of the screen. The "slash" has a range of 64 inches and will make contact if the target is in a ten degree radius from the center of the screen.

^ And thats without lag.

I've seen the charge in Black Ops, doesn't seem any better. Watching someone die to it is painful enough without having to experience it in first hand. -.-

I don't like the knife, but I have nothing against it. I drop-shot knife users and I tend to survive atleast 80 % of the time when they instantly fly by me unable to do anything except dying. Can't say I'm a big fan of commando panic knifers though :[

I only knife to get the challenges. Since I use tactical layout (xbox360) the knife button is to far away to hit real quick.

I used to knife heaps, but when I switched to Tac Layout, I have barely knifed since. Mainly I knife people who don't know i'm there after Tea-Bagging them for a while :P.

But if someone pops up around the corner, I will drop shot them. I just don't see the point of knifing.

I tend to only knife people in the back cause I don't want to waste ammo or be heard. The only other time I knife is if I turn a corner and there is a guy right in front of me I have a habit to quickly hit the knife button (it's a good thing I usually play core cause I would have knifed so many team mates like this.)

Anybody who's played CS knows that a 2 slash kill on a knife would be retarded & make knifes useless. Hell, you don't even need to play CS, just basic logic.
The only thing wrong with knifes is the lunge with commando.

I would actually prefer the knife take up a secondry slot, or you have to equip it to use it. Maybe press R stick then shoot button?

And I played CS, the knife was perfectly fine. It was a little underpowered, but it was easy to get good games only knifing :P

I hate the knife in general. It's probably due to the annoying lunge, though. I play on tactical layout, so i never usually knife, im actually starting to adapt right now, and i just hate when im doing okay and a random slash kills me. I like Ninja's idea, if you don't check your ass you can die quick, but then you cant get instakilled by a guy running into your face

Absolutely.

Actually, if one was to presume that the CoD engine's units of measurement, simply called "units", are supposed to represent real life inches (I have seen many times, COD4 PC players/modders refer to units as inches), then the maximum knife range would be double that.

FYI, Commando increases the lunge range from 128 units to 304 units.

no commando will help alot, in cod4 if i died from a knife i didn't feel as it was unfair. it was usualy coming out of a door or around a corner which is realistic, dying from a knife from 15 feet away while i pump 4 shotgun shells into the enemy is just a sad sad thing for a once great franchise.

Or we could replace everybody's knife with a rubber one. 2 damage per slash, 3 per lunge.

The knife was perfect in CS:Source. It was a skill kill.

Knifing is terrible in MW2. Even if they removed commando and tac knife I would still hate the knife mechanic. Even without commando the lunge is too generous. Throw in the ridiculous auto aim and 1 hit kill it becomes even more retarded.

do we have proof of this? I would wager there is a larger lunge in mw2 and very generous aim assist but I'm talking out my ass. I don't recall seeing people teleport in cod4.

Mw2. Don't bring a gun to a sword and noob tube fight.

In order to do a regular Attack, the enemy must be inside the 64 unit range, else the Charge will activate.
