WATCH IN 720p PLOX.
This is a quality test I did today. Recorded using fraps, and rendered in Sony Vegas 9. I imported the video clip after recording with Fraps, then added Color Correction, and inserted the audio track. I rendered in .wmv format, and using the 6mbps 720p template. In Vegas itself, in the preview box, the quality looks very good. However, when I come to render, it seems to drop quite a lot. Can anyone give some advice on the best way to so this? I also seem to get occasional vertical scan-lines appearing in the bottom half of the video. Does anyone know why this happens and/or how it can be fixed? Thanks. Embed: Spoiler:

It looks good but the contrast looks insane, maybe it's the map.
Anyway, here's what I do. First, drag your video into the timeline, then on the video preview area, click the small blue box with an arrow in it, this will bring up Project Properties. Then on the top right you should see a manila folder, when highlighted it says Match Media Settings. Click this, and find the video you recorded, and double click. This makes sure it matches all of the video settings to make the render as high quality and as smooth as possible. Adjust frame rate accordingly to what you recorded. Next, it's time to add your effects. First in the VideoFX tab, click Sharpen, reset to none, and drag it on there, no changing required. Then Saturation adjust, reset to none, same thing. After you do that, go back to your video timeline, right click it, and disable resample. There is one more effect that I use however you have to download it, and based off of a new test we can decide if you want it. Anyway, when you render it, render it as Main Concept AVC (mp4.), and follow my settings: ![]() Adjust bitrate to what you recorded with. Sound should be at 48,000 and 128, and Project tab at Best. Hope this helps. |

Thank you very much, Ninja.
Followed your instructions exactly, and the video is currently rendering. Saturation is down to the config used when recording, btw.

DOUBLE POST BECAUSE I CAN.
Watch in 720p This seems to have turned out a lot better. Thanks Ninja. Didn't apply colour correction or anything this time, however, so this one looks even brighter. FML.

I actually set it to 320, as that was the bitrate of the track I imported.

Had some time this weekend, so I thought I would try a slightly different method for making a CoD4 video.
This time, I used CoD4's "avidemo" feature to record a demo which is being played back using cod4player, instead of recording it with Fraps. This is supposed to give much better quality, as it literally just takes xx amount of screenshots (frames) per second. I then put these together to make a video in .avi format using a program called VirtualDub (cod4 pc players may have heard of this). This produces a very good quality file although it is very big (7Gb for 22 seconds at 120fps). I rendered the clip using Vegas and the exact method as above (thank you NinJa). I was slightly disappointed by the outcome, as it is not really noticeably better than when I used Fraps. Watch in 720p and expanded pl0x. EMBED: Spoiler: EDIT: I'm just about to render another test, but I have noticed that even after selecting the bit rate as "14,000,000", in the description box afterwards, it always stays at 1350 kbps, instead of 14Mbps as in your picture. Is this a problem with the file? Or have I chosen another setting which prohibits me from rendering at a higher setting?

BUMP.
Bumping thread because I have an issue. I came back to editing today and found a half decent shot that I could use for a quality test. This is the problem. I decided, in the interests of time, to use Fraps instead of avidemo to record this time. However, after importing my clip into Vegas, I get scanlines appearing in the bottom half of the video. The source file from Fraps doesn't have any, so I know that it is a problem with Vegas. I made sure to match the file settings and disable re-sampling just like Ninja suggested. EDIT: Here is the video, scan lines and all. Watch in 720p. Embed: Spoiler:

FUCK. Bumping this thread again because still nobody has anything to say.
Re-uploaded the previous clip, less the scan lines, and I added some colour correction too. Watch in 720p. Embed: Spoiler: I will be uploading more call of duty 4 clips/videos in the future, if I ever resolve my PB issue that is...
