Default CoD Rumors Point to Modern Warfare Prequel, New Developer

<span class="articleText">
Two Call of Duty rumors have spread across the web today, and they suggest the mega-successful franchise is going in two new directions: A prequel to Modern Warfare from Infinity Ward, and a new entry from Singularity developer Raven Software.
Raven Software's involvement comes from a new job listing the studio posted (via MCV), which explains they're looking for an FX artist "to drive the development of stunning visual effects for an established console-based, realistic, first-person military shooter." Considering Raven Software is owned by Activision, it's not hard to guess which established military FPS franchise they could be referring to.
As for the Modern Warfare prequel, this rumor's a little shakier. It comes by way of thisisxbox.com, which claims a "source within the industry" tipped them off to to a new CoD in development at Infinity Ward that'll focus on the Modern Warfare 2 character Ghost (and made using the MW2 engine), showing the events leading up to the first Modern Warfare and how Ghost became a member of Task Force 141 (a story shown in a comic series published around the release of MW2). Thisisxbox.com claims this source has given them reliable information in the past, but obviously, there's no telling just how legitimate this rumor is.

So something somewhat like the concept of Halo 3: ODST? That'd be cool I guess, since Ghost was pretty awesome in the single player campaign.

an established console-based LOL, I find it moderately hilarious that not only did Activision forgot the bit where they lie about giving the PC equal treatment but actually said the complete opposite...

realistic HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. AHAHAHAHA. HAHAHA. Oh dear... HAHAHA.

first-person military shooter It's not really military is it. Last time I checked the SAS still prefer conventional weapons to akimbo 19th century shotguns...
Although, this is such a bad description of recent COD games, could this be a more realistic dare I say sim-based spin off to the series?

Also, why do they keep calling it a franchise? McDonalds is a franchise, Call of Duty is not?

It's a franchise per say. Activision sell the Call of Duty name to various developers (which they own, so I guess they're not reallllllly selling it) to use on the game which will instantly give it a sales boost.

Modern warfare prequel. Thats what treyarch tried to do.

Stunning visuals are stunning visuals regardless of age of technology. I am not saying these will be stunning but old tech does not mean they can't be. Pyramids are still stunning to this day.

I concur, I mean Crysis came out about a week after CoD 4 and after WaW, MW2 and BlOps their games still look crap.

^ On that topic:

A perfect example of a once PC game, that is now being transferred to consoles. Still plenty of confusion over Cryengine 3 and optimization with hardware etc., but I hope this game will push boundaries in ways similar to the original.

not saying these will be stunning but old tech does not mean they can't be. I see where you're going, but old tech drastically reduces the chances of it being as stunning as something produced with new tech. Furthermore each iteration of graphics technology has a limit of how well software can be developed for it.

Pyramids are still stunning to this day. For a start, the pyramids are not A) a video game or B) a graphics card. The point I was arguing was intended to be about computer generated graphics.

I think that's a very good shout, it's mentioned somewhere in the article if you click the link for the full version.

Also the very first expansion pack ever released for a COD game was done by someone else (i.e. not infinity ward as they were presumably working on COD 2 at the time) and in terms of results that turned out very well - the expansion pack was spot on and it would've given IW more time to focus on the next release which is regarded as one of, if not the best, COD game by die hard long-time COD fans.
