Update 2: So here's a rundown of the main highlights now that the NDA has lifted:
COD Elite is a free service: The initial feature set for COD Elite looks like stuff you can get for free, and any queries about paid content or price for said content was met with a "we're not discussing that right now." So the majority of stuff we checked out ourselves -- the stat tracking, grouping, contests, and tactical aid -- looks like it will be free. Activision vice president of digital Jamie Berger commented while the basic service and features will be free, that there will be a premium membership that will provide a "standalone service to provide 24-hour programming and customer service." Berger later outlined perks such as downloadable content and "other services" -- for that former point, he reiterated that Activision will continue to offer standalone map packs. So we're imagining that any paid service might mean early/exclusive access to map packs before wide-release. Finally, Berger promised that whatever fee Activision charges will be "less money than any comparable gaming service or online entertainment."
