An innocent comment made at the ongoing Develop Conference had been taken by some to mean the first game from Respawn Entertainment -- the company formed by the former heads of Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward -- won't be out until 2015. In reality, that isn't the case.
Iain McCaig, who has previously worked on James Bond movies, the newer
Star Wars trilogy, and
The Secret of Monkey Island, is contributing to Respawn's game as a concept artist. According to
GameSpot, he said at the conference he is "having the most fun working with Respawn Entertainment right now, but I can't show you, and I won't be able to show you, until 2015."
The date in and of itself is fairly ridiculous given what we know. Respawn was
founded last year by Jason West and Vince Zampella and quickly
amassed a staff of former Infinity Ward employees, in addition to other hires. It has a publishing deal with
Electronic Arts, which has indicated Respawn's game will be a
sci-fi shooter of some sort. The developer
launched its official website late last month, complete with a blurry teaser image (above) for its first game.
