Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has spoken out against dedicated videogame consoles, claiming that his company could be making significantly more money on more open platforms like the PC.
Speaking to the Financial Times (registration required), Kotick claims that 60 percent of Xbox Live users are there "principally because of Call of Duty," and that Activision doesn't see a fair share of the money from it.

I'm a PC gamer. I choose to play MW2 on xbox. PC FPS shooters are garbage due to hax, IMHO.

I'll play pretty much any kind of game on my PC except for online FPS games.

Lawl. So, how many PC FPSes have you played? MW2 is plagued with hackers due to how garbage VAC is but I played CoD4 for 2 years and experienced less than 10 hackers, from the amount of bitching on forums from console users about "UFO hacks" etc. I have a feeling that that's significantly less than they experience.

OT: I support all moves to get gamers onto PC, except for the creation of an online service which is required to play games, a la MW2 and Steam, because that shit isn't fun for anyone except the companies.

I would support getting PC player numbers up if Activision didn't have other motives (besides money of course) but it sounds like he wants to give PC gaming a face lift, i.e. pay to play service which is in the absolute wrong direction. I foresee a huge migration of PC players onto other non-Activision games if something like that happens. I'm not going to pay to play a game that is as horrendous as MW2. And since I already have COD4, I'd be okay.

What said face lift would look like.

Game companies need to stop looking at games like WoW, seeing their monthly fees and think "ZOMG WE COULD DO THAT!"


Unless Activision is planning on making every PC game they have an MMO of some sort, they will be hard pressed to provide the necessary content to make gamers feel comfortable with paying a fee. There is not nearly enough content in traditional FPS games to merit it. Most of the patching that ever gets done is fixing shit that they broke.

MW2 is the only COD game, out of 6, which has more than 5 hackers PER YEAR. Seriously Hacking is so overated, it's just something fanboys flag up to try and justify their decision to buy something else. Sure some games are ruined by hacks - as I said, MW2 is one of them but soooo many games aren't.

Doesn't it seem a bit of a waste that you don't play what is undoubtedly one of the two strongest genres for the PC platform?


I play COD games on PC because that's the platform with the best graphics, the best control system and (well, excuse IWnet) the best performance and biggest variety online. So yes, I like COD on PC and I support more games on the PC but...

TBH I never played any COD on PC. I was always mega into counterstrike. That totally tainted my image I guess. When I build a new PC I'll probably pick up black ops and try it out.

Pubbing CS was a great way to meet hackers, but in competition your opponents were typically trustworthy. Well, in 1.6 just as long as you avoided CAL-Intermediate as that bracket had all the top teams blatantly hacking to try to escape to Main lol.

For what it is worth, far more people hacked in 1.6 than they did in CS:Source (mostly due to the death of wallbanging)

Also, for the people who do use Linux probably have a PC too. I mean, not to be harsh, but people who keep asking for more computer like qualities from their consoles always make me LAWL loudly. If you want things like that, buy a PC. Seriously, consoles are becoming more and more computerized, yes. But if you want to actually mess around with your ps3 that much just get a compy.

COD4 is available on the mac. Although mac's are pants for gaming because they use laptop components which are VERY slow compared to their desktop counter parts and get very hot very easily. So yeah, hot (see xbox 360 RROD for "what happens when hardware gets too hot") & slow are two pretty damn bad things to have for gaming :/

I play on Area 51 TDM Server sometimes on Call of Duty 4 (the latest patch), and there is at least one aimbotter half the times I join.

To my knowledge, Area 51 has multiple servers, I've played their HC TDM server as well as the AC-130 mod map server and have yet to see a hacker in it. I know it's hit and miss but to compare COD4 and MW2 and say that the former has/had more hackers in it is kind of crazy. In fact, if I want to get away from hacking I play COD4 or Mahjong Tiles.

I have actually just read an article that said a US government department (iirc, will try and find article) used the ps3 as a raid with linux. The article only came out because they said the removal of this was going to cause them problems.
