Default EA Had Iraq War Game in Development

<span class="articleText">
According to former EA employee and current THQ executive Danny Bilson, EA had an Iraq war game in the works that the company scrapped before completion. The THQ VP of core games revealed as much in a lengthy interview with CVG.
When asked about social responsibility as it relates to modern-day shooters like Modern Warfare 2, Medal of Honor, and THQ's own Homefront, Bilson relayed a story about his previous job at EA. "When I worked at my former company, I had to go to the UK in the middle of the Iraq war and try to talk to them about a game that we never wound up finishing -- it was well built up -- that was that stuff, right?" he said of EA's now-canceled Iraq war game. "Remember, even in America you're split 50/50 on this stuff."
"You go overseas, and if you're an unconscious American, you walk into a wall. Or you just don't sell," Bilson explained. "[Homefront] is a human story. It's not an American story. And it absolutely will expand beyond the States in future."

Yes, that wonderful trailer is just the motivation they need.

Its called Six Days in Fallujah. Konami was going to publish it but they dropped it because of the controversy. The game has been pushed back to next year, but its borderline on whether or not it'll be canceled.

I honestly don't see what's the big deal with games about the Iraq War.

If Konami was smart, they'd use the controversy to their advantage. MW2 was so controversial, they banked on it, and reaped the rewards.

And the problem with the controversy was that they revealed the name too soon, and revealed the story a little too early, too... So, my suggestion now is to rename the title they went with at first, and then sell it like its hot.

EA was pretty stupid canning the Iraq game. And really, it doesn't make sense to just can it, and reveal it as MOH.

The Iraq war is still happening. There are still daily suicide bomb attacks on civilians and what's left of the Iraqi and Coalition forces. There are still some US combat troops in Iraq. Also the Iraq war was/is extremely public. It was pretty awkward TBH when SCEE released "Conflict: Desert Storm 2" just two months after the invasion of Iraq, even though Desert Storm was '91, it was the same country fighting the same forces etc.

In contrast games like MW2 can get away with it because they claim to be fiction because they revolve around non-officialy-admitted stuff (black ops), deniable forces or simply pass off a storyline that happens to be close to reality as a coincidence or inspiration but-not-based-on (think Al Asad campaign in COD4)

For example task force 141 is made up, but there is/was a "task force 173" in afghanistan targetting higher up taliban figures, there was also a "task force xxx" in Iraq. In the rescue Nikolai mission in COD4 the news reporter on the TV in the very first wooden shack reads a news story which would fit perfectly with the Iraq war (same story line, and they just refer to the OpFor country as "a small but oil rich nation in the gulf of persia") Also, IIRC the country that you invade on the map is actually Jordan, which is right next to Iraq. Come to think of it, MW2 didn't have much to do with the MW1 story line at all...

COD owner - COD expansion pack owner - COD2 owner - COD2: BRO player - COD3 owner - COD4 owner - COD:WaW owner - COD: MW2 owner - COD: BO owner

This is getting repetitive.

Valid points, but the game looked like it had some promise. Shame such talent is going to waste. At least they're still releasing breach.
