Hey everyone! This is my first post here.
I'm rebuilding my girlfriends old Dell XPS 600 and wanted to know how it will run MW2. The final specs (when I finish installing everything this later week): Intel Pentium D 830 (Dual Core) @3.0ghz (2mb cache / 800mhz fsb) 8gb DDR2 800 GeForce GTX470 1.2mb Superclocked 1tb 10k HDD The mobo is old, and thus restricts most cpu upgrades (plan on spending $90 for a D960 @3.6ghz / 4mb cache) What do you guys think? Should this be able to rip thru MW2 without any trouble? I play MW2 on my FX7811 laptop (Intel P8400 @2.2ghz / 9800M GTS) with little trouble......how CPU heavy is MW2?......I'm hoping the older D 830 wont bottleneck the game. |

It will struggle.
Even if you put a super powerful GPU in your computer, all that data has to go through the processor. However, you processor sucks, and will probably only be able to handle about 25% (educated guess, probably lower) of that power. You should be able to run on low settings at a small resolution as MW2 was not very demanding at all, not much more so than CoD4. Expect to shell out up to £200 to pay for a decent CPU/Motherboard combo to keep up with that GTX470. I'd be looking at Phenom II 955 minimum with an 870 AM3 motherboard.

Its odd you would say that. I saw a post of someone who upgraded their P4 (3.4ghz) with a GTX460 and runs the game maxed out at 1440x900.....
The old cards in this rig were 2x 7800GTX's in sli.......and they ran he game maxed out at 1280x1024 at 45-50 fps....... |

Then why did you ask? I gather you basically came here to show off that $250 GPU (I'm not up to date on US pricing).
I gather that my recollective memory of the comparison between P4 CPUs and modern processors. Still, I would take the educated guess that even those previous cards in SLI were close to being bottlenecked by that P4, in which case you will only see a small improvement in performance, and definitely not a few hundred bucks' worth.

Not at all........I wanted to see if anyone had a similar set-up (high-end gpu paired with an older cpu)
Some people had great results with P4's, I wanted to see if people had similar results (or better) with dual cores. |
