you can't ask that sort of question and provide no info whatsoever.
I assume you ARE behind a router because to connect to the internet you need a modem of some sort and the massive majority of modems now have built in routers. go to www.infinityward.com/nat for more details on how to de-restrict your router.

What does NAT settings really do? I think I have an idea but rather hear from those in the "know" of how things work. Any help would be nice.

.My modem is a motorola my router is netgear I reset my NAT settings to open ,rebooted everything.But when I get in game still says moderate setting .Is this good enough or do I need to try something else?

I assume a better answer would be to the question "what are the effects of NAT?" as opposed to wanting to know "what is NAT?" and how it works blah blah. Anyway, basically NAT controls the freedom and type/number of other computers on the internet that can connect to yours.
An open NAT will allow a larger number of potential games, whilst a restricted NAT will probably increase security. Whether or not security is "adequete" when open, I have no idea.
