When i play the game i get stuck, the computer freezes can't do anything, ctrl+alt+del does nothing, nothing does. It happens at random, sometimes in the beggening of the round sometimes the end. My pc spec: Intel Q9300, Ati 4870, 4GB RAM that should be enough even for this game. There is no error report or anything so I don't know how to describe it more. I'm not sure but I don't think this is VGA's foult becouse the led's on the keyboard stop working too (the ones that were on, remain on, but I can't turn them off)
Please help me

BTW i also get stuck when i launch the game but its for ~1min and thats not a big problem, but this may somehow help solving the main problem.

Downside

Try setting the graphics to the lowest settings see if you can play then. You could always update/roll back your graphic card drivers (try updating first).

The drivers are latest the same happened with two previous versions of them... For the lowest settings I won't be able to tell normaly if it's working becouse I might not get stuck today, and i previously tried it and it didn't work although not the lowest but close to it, and it kinda ruined the game for me
Any more ideas?

Hmmm... Not really sure about this one.

Can you tell us a bit more about what happens when it freezes, like completely random, while in-game or at menu screens etc. stuff like that?

Might have to wait till abc gets on, I'm sure he'll have something to say.

Well... When it freezes I'm stuck comletely, as I said led's on keyboard are stuck, and while playing im chating with other people on skype and it also get's stuck (also get stuck while not chating, so skype isn't a problem). Freezes happen only while playing, never in menu or while loading map (although sometimes i get like 5sec freeze when it loads the map but it's not a big deal).
Oh yeah, what about temperatures?

The temps are fine although a little warm. Its a quad though so it should be expected.

I really am quite stuck with this one. The only things I can suggest are firstly, verifying the game cache under MW2 -> Properties -> Local Files in steam. After that I would try a reinstall of the game. If problems still persist you might want to try IW's forums.

Verifying cache worked 2 times in a row so I thought it's fixed, but sadly i got stuck again... Reinstallig didn't help eighter.
Any more ideas?

Well I am stumped.

Usually you only have to verify the game cache once, and then it works forever afterwards. I kept getting an error during the first SP mission and it worked then. Not had the problem since.

The last thing I would suggest, if possible, is reinstalling Windows. Make sure to back up all your data first though.

If that isn't possible, then as I said before, you may want to post this somewhere on IW's forums. I personally don't go there but I'm sure there will be a section like this where you can get some better advice.

You might also want to send abc a PM with the link to this thread. He is usually quite active in this section as he is quite a computer whiz. I really don't know why he has missed this?

What about viruses? Could it be the problem? I'm using NOD32 antivirus.

I haven't "missed" this thread, merely decided not to waste anyone's time by contributing what I have to contribute, which can be summed up in one word: nothing.

More diagnostics is needed here. Get rivatuner. Run rivatuner Hardware Monitor to produce a graph for: GPU core & memory clock, CPU clock, GPU utilisation, CPU utilisation and memory utilisition (and page file utilisation - if that exists) Set the graphu up so it runs for a long time but updates fairly frequently.

Play MW2. Wait for pause/freeze. Wait for pause//freeze to end. Quit MW2. Look at RT graph. Spot anomoly (i.e. GFX core clock drops or page file changes drastically in size)




Some things that may be causing this issue:

Standard CPU/GFX card throttling (Been a problem on nvidia hardware but not ATI hardware - traditionally)
HDD/page file/hard fault bottlnecks: Happened to me in far cry 2... but the amount of textures FC2 has to constantly load (it's a free-roaming game remember) laughs in MW2's face. Then again MW2 texture-streaming. Which I assume means it streams textures...

I can't do that, when the main freeze happens it doesn't unfreeze i can only view the freeze when i turn the game (the <1min one) and i can't see anything big, just GPU usage went up by ~10%.

When i got this game's key i entered it in steam and downloaded it, it was like 4Gb. When i tried turning it on I got "localization.txt missing" error so i went google and found out how to fix it. I put localization.txt where needed and bunch of other files (that also worked as turning the game to english) I remember putting something in the Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\main folder and the zone folder, maybe something wrong here?

BTW I don't know exactly that i put only them maybe i put something else that could have broke it.

Any zone_english or localisation files are purely things like text and in game speach for various languages.

Page files & HDD activity... how much free space do you have on your HDD? Have you disabled, shrunk, increased or moved the windows Page File aka Swap File (this is a very advanced setting, you'd know if you'd done it)

In C disk free 48 out of 63, in the other disc (where steam is installed and mw2) free 471 out of 527.
I haven't moved any of thoes Page Files aka Swap Files

i'm not sure - can't backtrack - which OS you're using, but i'm on Windows 7.

the FIRST thing i did was to relocate my pagefile.sys to the tail-end of my secondary drive, i.e., the one where Windows 7 is NOT installed.

so i doubt that's the problem, i've always done this no matter which OS (XP Pro) i was running before and it's never caused me a problem.

I just noticed something new. I'm using Creative fatal1ty Hs-1000 USB headest and when I tried to make the volume a bit lower i got stuck. I didn't do that on the freezes that happened before but maybe it's something wrong with headset or the drivers? Any ideas how to check it?

Take it out and see how good your gameplay is w/o freezes.
But I use to have the same problem as you.

The problem was my graphics card.
It was damaged... does this happen on any of the other game you play?

And also make sure your not running anything that overlaps your screen.
Like a video recorder, any IM (aim, msn, etc.).

That can make you freeze too.

Unplugging all non-critical USB devices is a good idea.

Try turning off Windows UAC... (user account control) despite the panic windows will have it's perfectly safe if you've got an up-to-date firewall, anti virus and don't have any viruses.

DEP, Data Execution Prevention also comes to mind but if that is what's happening there's no way you're gonna solve this without new hardware or doing something very clever/long-winded.

Q9300... about the "Q" but mostly the "9" part of that model name. "Q9xx" = one of the hottest proccessors, it could be a gone-wrong emergency power-down. Again no way to solve this.
