Hi there!
This problem has only occurred for me in the past week. Whenever I try to play a normal online game, I lose connection and I get signed out. I can usually get 1 game before I just lag out of control but my connection is usually good with the game. I get about 3 bars per game which is the average for me yet it will just randomly lag out of control and I get kicked out. All of my internet using appliances are chucked out for some reason. Is it due to MW2 taking up too much internet or something? My internet provider is AOL, I live in the UK and my wireless router is a SpeedTouch44C821 and this has never happened before apart from the last week. Is it to do with my internet or the PS3? If so could you kindly tell me so and if possible, if i can fix it. Thank you for taking the time to read this and I would greatly appreciate any input you could kindly offer. |

Probably due to other computers etc. taking up your d/l speed.
Do a SpeedTest and give us the results. That should give us a bit more to go on.

I did a test on a different site which is Bandwidth Place | Internet Speed Test one before I played a match and one during. They were both similar if that is any use. |

Well, those speeds are fine
![]() Not too sure what it could be to be honest. You might have to wait for someone else to give their opinion.

Thanks. Any input is useful. Could it be a PS3 or a disc problem then? Tomorrow I'll try changing discs (I've got a regular and a hardened edition) or even PS3's.

Can you give a bit more detail to exactly what happens?

Okay.
If I were to join a game, everything happens as normal, I usually have 3 bars and no apparent lag but then usually after 1 game or my 1st game, lag strikes and I lose connection. I get kicked out of the game and a message appears from the game saying that I need a network connection to play the game. The PS3 then tells me that I have been disconnected from the access point and it then signs me out of my account. My laptop also loses connection from the internet and I think that my other PS3 does aswell. My internet doesn't come back instantly, it's as if it's been switched off and then on again. I hope that's enough information. |

Hmm... Sounds like a router problem.
I remember for COD4 some connection problems could be solved by changing router settings or putting your PS3 into whats called a "DMZ" (demilitarized zone). Ill try and find the link for you but there are no guarantees it will work. Ahh, here we go: How to: Put your PS3 into a DMZ Apart from that I really don't know. Maybe someone else on the forums can help.

It sounds like an issue with your ISP, router or wifi (Vague huh?
). It may be a problem that happens all the time but is only noticeable when your connection is interrupted in an obvious way, like while playing an online game.First of all, do you have this problem with wired appliances / computers? If you don't then your wifi is likely the cause. If you do have this problem with wired machines, and if you're using Windows, you could run a ping to google.com like this: Start | Run, type in "ping google.com -t" and keep an eye on the output while browsing the web, playing games, etc. It'll keep attempting to ping indefinitely. If it ever changes to "ping request timeout" (or something to that effect) then you've lost connection. If the time to reply is large or fluctuates heavily, then your connection is lagging heavily. This wont fix or prove anything but it may help you find a pattern if there is one. I would be very surprised if it was the PS3 - and curious to know what was causing it if it was your console! One other thing, do you have a Microwave anywhere near the wifi router? I do (small apartment) and if it's turned on, my Wifi goes nuts then dies. |

Putting your PS3 in the DMZ is safe. Putting a PC into the DMZ would not be advised.
I had the exact same problem with disconnecting from the PSN when I bought a brand new modem router. I would sign into the PSN, then after a few minutes of playing a game online, I would be signed out and get a DNS error. I had no clue how to fix it, so I asked for help from my ISP. After trying and testing every solution they could think of (over a period of 8 months), they told me I had a faulty modem router. I swapped the faulty modem router for a better one (at no charge thankfully) and I put my PS3 in the DMZ and I haven't had any problems since. Well, no problems caused from my end anyway. Put your PS3 in the DMZ and with any luck, it should fix your problem. Failing that, try playing a different game online and see if you have the same problem. If you do, at least you can rule out the possiblity of the game being faulty.

I tired the DMZ thing and I had the same problem but it came up with a different error message. After it said that I had been disconnected from the access point, it said that I there was a problem with my DNS or something like that. I'll try and get the error message next time I try it.

Try starting over with new network settings on your PS3. Do an automatic set up and see if that helps.
Also, if you can post some screenshots of your computers router settings (including the DMZ section), it will be easier to help you out...

The DMZ section on your router, may be in the Tools section, under Firewall. If it is, enter your PS3's IP address in the DMZ, and hopefully things will improve.
If the DMZ section isn't under the Firewall heading, this may help... Port Forwarding PS3 Call of Duty - Modern Warfare 2 on the Thomson/Alcatel SpeedTouch 585 Follow the instructions to open the neccessary ports to play MW2 online. Good luck mate...

Hmm... It certainly could be your router causing problems.
A new would be a good suggestion but I'd make sure you covered anything else it could be first.

I think Oneinchwunda is right. It sounds like your router has peacefully passed away.
Before you go buying a new router, could you post pics of the DMZ section of your router, and a pic of your PS3 network settings (from the PS3 itself)? I would like to double check what you've done so far. Hhopefully you won't have to spend money on a new router, if I can see something you may have missed...

I've played some WaW and that works fine. MW2 doesn't work on my other PS3 so is it something to do with the MW2 servers?
Is it worth switching internets to something better? I've got 8mb speed atm so is it worth switching to something like a 20mb?
