Default wireless router VS. wired connection

probably a nooooob question for some ppl ... but will using a wired connection be noticeably better than using my wireless router?

I know nothing about these things... i mean obviously it could lead to less connections interrupted but i want to know will it fix any lag that i might experience? or is that just IWnet or PSN or something thats causing this lag lately

Let's put it this way. I paid £50 to be able to avoid using wireless.

Wire obviously owns wireless. Whatsoever. In some families. Your parents make you pay 80$ because they dont want an wire in the living room.

First of all, if you have the option to chose, you should NEVER pick wireless.

Secondly, it depends alot on the place where you live in. At my parent's house, gaming with a wireless connection is simply impossible. I have a very bad signal, while the router is like 10 meters away from my computer. I bought the most powerful reciever for my computer & it was still impossible. Whenever I'm gaming, I lay a cable through 2 rooms now, because else it simply isn't doable to play.

When I'm at my apartment at university though, I use a crappy built-in wireless reciever in my laptop, the same router as I have at home & I'm further away from it, yet I can game perfectly without losing signal at all.

Yet, if you don't have to use wireless, you should avoid it at any cost.

Yeah, I paid £40+ and don't regret it one bit...

Ethernet cable vs WiFi =

10% ~ lower ping
NO "connection interupted" due to your hardware
NO packet lose
Consistent connection

Basically wired connections mean you can play forever with, it might not be amazing but, a consistant, rock steady speed and latency where the only "time outs" or "connection interupted" etc messages occur because of the host.

It's bizarre that it now costs more to go wired than wireless... I'm getting old.

Or are you guys talking about the cost to hide Ethernet cable instead of dragging it around the floor?

I paid £40 for a homeplug system, sending internet traffic from room to room via the earth wire of your homes' closed electrical circuit.

In a PERFECT world wireless is just as good as wired.
It is NOT a perfect world.
I used wireless on PSN for a year.
I now use wired.

No it won't fix all lag.

This, tbh. Same setup that I have. It requires no more setting-up than a cable and is absolutely great for LANs or relocation in general.

People always describe setting up these "ethernet adapters" or "homeplugs" as "easy." What potential-users fail to realise is they require NO setting up. "setting up" purely means plugging a plug into a power socket and plugging an internet cable between the power socket and the device (well dur)

You can therefore deliver an internet connection to any room in your house that has a power socket. Really easy to just pick up and move if you want to play for a bit on the living room TV or in the basement with friends.

As I said originally, this technology relies on having an earth cable. You yanks/europeans don't have a seperately pronged earth cable on your mains power plugs/sockets. I do not know if this technology is available in the US.

ABC....is "earth cable" the same thing as a "ground wire"? Or the thrid part of an "old fashion" two prong outlet?

If abc can't, maybe someone that has more experience with all the different "international" outlet types can help me out here.
