somehow during the week that i was gone on vacation a giant scratch half a centimeter away from the edge of the disc magically apeared. The scratch goes around about half the disc and is perfectly alligned with the disc. I bring it back to Toys R Us saying that its doesnt work(the xbox says the disc is unreadeable)(I did get the insurance for it) the assholes say i was suppossed to "register" it and im like wtf are you talking about. So they wouldn take it back and now i cant play MW2
. Anyone know any PROVEN ways to remove the scratch cuz spending another 60$ is not really an option

i had a similar problem on my halo disc, i brought it into a local game store where they charged me 3 dollars and i guess what the guys said they do is sand down the bottom of the disc so the scratch isn't so deep anymore and it worked after that. If its not so deep a scratch you can get disk fixer stuff for like 15 bucks at any best buy or most electronics stores.
I would still recommend taking it in and letting a professional try and fix it first though since its cheaper.

Bananas... works. I also used toothpaste or Brasso. Saved many PS2 discs
EDIT: this image shows how eroding part of the bottom of the disc is okay, because the data is actually closer to the top label than it is to the bottom, shiny part.

Well I'll give you a tip, Get a hold of a friends MW2 disc and then copy it to your hardrive on the xbox and then take your scratched disc and insert it to see if it works, I think it will work, this only works on Xbox.

Yeah, if you ever have free space on your HD on your Xbox, download it to the hard drive so it will still work if your disc is scratched. This is where teh 120 GB comes in handy.

You don't have to buy a new disk. If one of your friends have the disk ask to borrow it and download it to your xbox hard drive. Then put your disk in and the xbox will read the code inside of the cd and verify you have a copy. Then you can play from your hardrive and dont have to buy a new disk.

wel i tried toothpaste and it did very little. The vasoline im not even thinking about... and the peanut butter did nothing. If anything it made it worse. Then i went out and bought "Memorex OptiFix" 17$. NEVER GET MEMOREX OPTIFIX IT IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE!!! It leaves a layer of and some "gunk" that you need to put it under a magnifying glass to see. This "Gunk" blocks the laser and made my game not even be recognized by my xbox. I then wet a cloth and cleaned it and this time i got atleast 10 seconds into the game before it was "unreadeable"(i used to be able to got like 20 seconds)

At most/all GameStop™ stores they have a cheap, refurbishing buissness. You have to pay about 10-20 dollars (USD) It takes about 2-5 days for them to return your disk. I have never found a flaw with their buissness.
