Default Being lagged as host by killstreaks

Does anyone else have issues when they are hosting a match when killstreak rewards start rolling? Specifically I am talking about anything intensive, such as harriers or chopper gunners... etc. If I am hosting a game where especially multiple killstreaks are up, my game will start to have huge drops in frame rate sporadically.

My computer isn't the best of course, but I was on a budget and I never planned on hosting 8-16 people off of myself when I was picking it <_<

(For what it is worth, outside of this scenario my frame rate is still fairly solid and consistent in pretty much any game I've played)

System Specs?

If it is only when KS's are up, then I'm really not sure.

AMD Athlon 7550 Dual-Core Processor 2.50Ghz
3GB RAM
nVIDIA Geforce 9800GT 1GB RAM PCI-e 16x
Vista32bit

Hmm.. just thought of something. When I bought my system, there was no video card. I added it on later. Is it possible I need to reallocate some of my physical memory back FROM being dedicated to video? IOW, double check that I'm not putting too much of my 3GB of RAM to work for video, since I already have 1GB on the card itself?

It has been so long since I have messed with settings like that I honestly almost forget where to begin.

That should play MW2 perfectly. RAM has very little effect on FPS, if at all.

Try reducing all your settings and see if you still get the same problem.

The weird thing is, I only get issues if I am hosting. I can handle it just fine with little hiccuping if someone else hosts.

I suppose I should clarify... I'm not 100% sure that it is an FPS drop as I don't run FRAPS or anything to see where I am at, all I know is all of the sudden things "slow down" or occasionally just lurch for a moment in those intense situations.

I was going to say "maybe it's your gfx card" but then saw what you have. I get a pretty substantial fps drop when major airstrikes or smoke grenades are in close range. It's mainly due to my gfx card being crap (8400GS). I play on pretty low settings too and can see a 10-20 framerate drop when fraps is on. It's not all the time though, I am wondering now if it's only when I'm hosting as well. Not sure what to tell you, but it seems like you might not be the only one having that problem.

Well then use fraps for a game or two and then you'll know. More info is better than us just guessing at an incomplete picture

ATM I'm voting for the CPU being a bottleneck. My 8600GT was bottlenecked by a 2.5GHz Athlon X2 (the "Athlon" that is actually an "Athlon," not the "Athlon" that's actually a "phenom I" like yours - but still there's not much performance in it) and still bottlenecked at 3.1GHz (max OC for that CPU) I'm still voting for a CPU bottleneck because the 3.1GHz Athlon also bottlenecked my 4830 (virtually on a par with a 9800GT) so obviously a much slower CPU (i.e. your 2.5GHz Athlon x2) will be a big bottleneck too. I reckon the CPU (since this, unlike say your GFX card, deals with the hosting bit) simply can't handle lots of frames in difficult scenarios whilst half of it's effort is on hosting.

abc is probably on the money, but as a simple test (and possible fix) you could try hosting a game with low graphics resolution or effects. FPS games quite often will time net code to frame rate (this is on the client side. I guess there would be a similar effect on the server side) and it may also be the case in MW2. Bursts of data may cause greater delays between frame updates, and perhaps if you are acting as server, network traffic gets right of way (which would make sense IMO).

This is all just guesswork but its a simple test
