Yesterday I booted up my PS3 to play MW2. When I selected MW2, it said there was a software update for the game. I decided to download the update. It was at 98%-99% when all of a sudden an error occurred (don't remember which one). I tried starting the game, however it just goes to a black screen. It remains on the black screen until I remove the disk or restart the PS3.
How can I fix this issue? Thanks in advance for the help. |

I think that's pretty bad news mate, especially if you've got one of the 'older' PS3's.
There's no way to independently command the PS3 to try downloading the Mw2 update a second time, the only way to do this will be to delete any game data and start from scratch but I'm not even sure that MW2 installs any game data on the PS3? The reason I ask about how old your PS3 is, if you have a newer slimline one then you can backup your game data (for all your games) to a USB, restore your system (you'll lose anything you haven't backed up, but you can't do a system backup or it'll save the error you're getting) and see if that does the job. Restoring the PS3 to factory settings will definitely work but you might lose any/all game progress from your entire library of save games, be warned. I would strongly advise you call technical support first though, they might be able to suggest something else - but from what I've seen on other forums they're pretty busy at the moment with all the fallout from the DLC. |

Thanks Jamesmsv,
I actually deleted the game data and when I popped the game back in it asked me to download the update again. THis time there was no issue with download and actual loading. Thank God I'm back to slaying Nubies on MW2. |

Nice one, there's nothing worse than sitting down for a killing session only to find technology has F*£(ed you in the ass.

not system backup, I was referring to the individual game backup which I believe is only a feature of the newer ones. The reason they added that in was because system backup wouldn't back up save files, and everyone knows that the one thing gamers don't care about is their game progress.

i'm probably inclined to agree with you mate, when my ps3 broke the first time, i had to throw a hissy fit down the phone to get them to understand the amount of time we plow into the game progress. eventually i won due to shouting about me having a lot of their endorsed exclusives.
checked my old ps3 it has the save game data copy function on it, it may have been an update though. |
