Exclamation Crash when attempt to change resolution

So I've been having some problems lately, about 2 days ago Steam told me to reinstall MW2 and apply updates.
So I did.. but ever since I did this, I have not been able to change the resolution on my game, it just crashes and I get an ERROR screen.

I've tried reinstalling the game completely, deleted it from my computer through the use of control panel and all but that did not help in the slightest.
NVIDIA says I have the latest drivers so this cannot be the problem.

-System Specs-
MS Windows XP Home SP3
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+
Clockspeed: 2.30 GHz, 3,00 GB RAM.
NVIDIA GeForce 240 GT
---------------

Help would be greatly appreciated!
Best regards.

UPDATE:
The error says '' Couldn't load image 'specialty_new ''

The resolution of my monitor is 1440x900, and I tried changing it in all resolutions available, but they all crash on me

Quite the contray, obviously the nVidia blokes who make the drivers can't test them on every single hardware/software combination in the world so sometimes some drivers do get released which turn out to be a bit dodgy on some systems. It is recommended to at least try an older driver by at least 1 "whole" version (e.g. try 179.xx if 180.xx doesn't work. Numbers are made up, I've no idea what number nVidia have got to atm)

At the top of this parent forum there is a thread titled something along the lines of "problems & solutions for PC." Read that and look for the "Could not load ____ file" and try the fixes suggested there.

EDIT: What "error" and where? is this MW2 giving you an error message or windows giving an error message once the game has crashed to desktop?

EDIT 2: I used a top secret website that us PC enthusiasts vow to keep secret from the "normal" world and there isn't much info on it, but it seems that the speciality_new file/issues occur only when you're not using the english version of the game?

COD owner - COD expansion pack owner - COD2 owner - COD2: BRO player - COD3 owner - COD4 owner - COD:WaW owner - COD: MW2 owner - COD: BO owner

This is getting repetitive.
