Default Help with resolution, screen freeze??

Hi guys,

I hope this isn't too much of a noob question...

When I play SP or MP after about 5 minutes the screen freezes, then goes black and brings up the little blue screen resolution box. I can still hear the game in the background.

After a while it unfreezes and sometimes lets me continue, other times not.

When I exit the game my desktop resoultion is really fat and windows offers to correct it for me, which I allow.

My question is why does it keep doing this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Need more information on the little blue screen box. It sounds like a Driver issue.

As for the resolution, its probably displaying the Desktop in whatever resolution you play Modern Warfare 2 in.

Therefore he probably isn't playing at his monitor's native resolution/ or at a resolution that isn't supported.

PC specs pl0x?

Hi thanks for your speedy responses.

The blue box, I think, is a windows 'thing' because it automatically changes my screen resolution. There's a red circle with a X on it in the tray at the bottom.

Here are the specs:

Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

NEC Computers
Powermate Series Computer
AMD™ Athlon 64x2 Dual
Core Processor 3800+
2.00GHz, 4 GB of Ram
ATI Sapphire Radeon 1600XT

Thanks again.

I think I speak on everyone's behalf when I say this is a pretty unique problem and it's pretty difficult to understand, so I suggest one simple act: a screen shot.

Hi again,

And thanks again,

I have no idea how to take a screenshot, so apologies for that.

The box thing has a blue border with 'MESSAGE' written in the top. Below is a turquoise colour with 'ADJUSTING...' And below that is 31GHz and another figure next to it I'm too slow to catch.

Is it perhaps, the monitor changing the resolution? It's a NEC LC17m.

Sorry for being so obtuse.

Thanks.

I've read this all again and you asking about your monitor makes ever so slightly more sense lol xD

1) Is there a different monitor in the house that you can try? e.g. swap over yours and your dads monitor etc
2) on your monitor there will be a few buttons for various settings, if you press one or several (choose carefully. "menu" is usually harmless if you can work out how to exit it ) Is the font/colour you get in the OSD (on screen display) the same as the font/colour that shows this "adjusting message."
3) How is your sound done? I.e. monitor speakers or seperate ones. Does the sound continue whilst the screen freezes etc

Monitors have different resolutions that they can cope with, and each resolution has it's upper limit of "refresh rate" E.g. my old monitor did 1440*900 @ 75Hz, or 1156*768 @ 85Hz or 9xx*6xx @ 95Hz (see as res goes down, it can have ahigher refresh rate) etc. It sounds as though (for whatever reason) your GFX card/monitor/windows/MW2 changes the res and/or refresh rate to one that your monitor can't cope with.

4) In the MW2 settings "advanced" menu, put "refresh rate" on the lowest it can go. (IIRC it's 60. If it isn't, try 60 as well as all monitors should be able to do 60Hz at native ("full") res)
