Unhappy Mouse Problem Please Help!

Hello everyone. I have a problem with my mouse. Whenever I play multiplayer (only multiplayer) my mouse will sometimes freeze and my actions will keep continuing while the mouse is frozen. It is not my graphics because everything is playable and it isn't my mouse because I have tried 2 already and the same thing. Can someone please help me?? I greatly appreciate your help

This problem has actually started happening and has not been like this before. It used to occasionally lock up and I would restart my computer and the problem would go away. But now it is like this everytime no matter what I do. I use my laptop's touchpad and when the problem started I used my wired mouse but it actually happened more. Thanks

Hi,

Can you clairfy this bit please. What do you mean by "actions," do you mean the game continues to play but no response is recieved from your mouse inputs? Does it unfreeze itself after a few seconds? Does this happen in any other online games? if yes OR no, which ones?

COD owner - COD expansion pack owner - COD2 owner - COD2: BRO player - COD3 owner - COD4 owner - COD:WaW owner - COD: MW2 owner - COD: BO owner

This is getting repetitive.

Yeah sorry. After the mouse freezes the games continues to go by but my player is frozen in what I was doing when the mouse freezes. After about 2 seconds it unfreezes itself. Modern Warfare 2 is the only game that this is ever happened to and only online.

that sounds like IWnet tbh. Lag. Try a different game as a control.

This really REALLY does just sound like lag spikes. If you're new to PC gaming, FPS or crucially non-dedicated-server gaming then it may just be that you don't quite realise what's happening.

Connection lag spikes happen independantly of hardware and software. I.e. the system still runs fine, it's just it hasn't received updated info (e.g. player locations etc) for a few tenths of a second so can't react to any of your (or other players') inputs. If you run an FPS-measuring program such as xfire or FRAPS you will note that during lag spikes your FPS continues to fluctuate ever so slightly, just like it does under normal play. If the number freezes or drops hugely, then you know there's something else going on. There are three flaws (that I can think of) in this plan: MW2 is capped at 01 FPS so if you've got a well-optimised config then chances are the FPS doesn't fluctuate much at all, if you've got a bottlenecked CPU then likewise your FPS might not fluctuate much or finally the FPS is literally quite stable in the part of the map you're on or there is nothing much to make the FPS fluctuate (change in lighting, e.g. shadows, gun fire, explosions)

Oh, thanks for the info. I never knew that. Is there any way to fix this?

IW/Activison could run the game using a technology called "dedicated servers" which, because said servers all have enterprise class 100Mb/s connections to the internet, are very reliable and offer minimal lag.

However whilst great for the gamer in the vast majority of situations it isn't very commercially viable if you want to have very strict control over the game (like activision want to have with MW2) or if you want to sell lots of DLC (like activision wish to) COD, COD2, COD4 and COD:WaW among many other PC games used (and still do use) a dedicated server setup. There are endless topics on the internet, mostly ill informed, about which type of MP (dedicated servers or peer hosting) is better/more-appropriate. The end story is peer hosting hasn't worked very well on PC on MW2, yet dedicated servers worked great on all other COD games - so it's easy to make the association...

However lag isn't all the hosting systems fault, your end generates latency (when you're constantly 8 tenths of a second behind the game) too but CRUCIALLY your end generates unreliability (caused by packet loss and latency spikes amongst other things) which is the real game-wrecker. There is little you can do, besides minimising packet loss by using a wired connection, changing ISP (see next option as to why changing ISP may do absolutely nothing) or digging up your entire town's cooper phone lines and replacing them with newer, faster and a more reliable infrastructure.
