I recently got a new computer and when i plugged in my 7.1 surround sound headset, only 2 channels work, making it only stereo. My mother board is this gigabyte thingy, anybody got any solutions?

Try to find out what soundcard u use! example: realtek AC888, download the newest driver and go into the driver menu...maybe there u found an option to change ur stereo to 5.1 or 7.1! Hope it will working soon

Assuming windows vista or 7 & assuming you've got realtek built in sound (tend to get realtek on the "pure gaming" AMD chipsets, e.g. 770 and 790) then in the start menu's search box type "realtek" OR even "rthdvcpl" (I know, lulwut? wth is that for a program name?!) and hopefully "realtek HD audio manager" or "rthdvcpl" will come up. Click on it, obviously, find the tab that relates to your headset and under speaker configuration choose "7.1"

You will also need to select "7.1 surround sound" in the sound menu's of virtually every game to enable it.

Please note that some items are stereo only, such as WMA & MP3 IIRC, and as such will only come out in stereo.

Please also note that the headphones are probably "virtual" surround sound not real surround sound. Still try to set them to 7.1 though. Failing that try ticking the box (if there is one) called "speaker fill" or similar. This enables artificial surround sound output of a stereo file.

^^ On my 770, it is called "___________ virtualization" IIRC. First tab of the Realtek HD Audio Manager.
