It doesn't happen all the time, but I have noticed this several times: a player runs into my view and their name is green for a split second, then it turns red. A couple times I didn't fire in time because of this and ended up dead. My wife witnessed it the other day and asked about it, so I'm not just seeing things! Is it a known bug or cheat?

This was a known exploit, where you could type your name in green so that when an enemy hovered over you it tricked them into thinking you were a friendly, present on the PC version but this was patched pretty soon after release (i.e. months and months ago)

It almost sounds as if they covered it up (literally, with a red name) as opposed to fixed it and therefore the green name can be seen momentariyl before the game verifies it's an enemy and applies the "patch" to turn the name green.

However with regards to programming the game, that would be a stupid way to "fix" the problem and furthermore said problem wasn't very common on consoles because console users simply didn't know how to make coloured names (because they haven't ever been able to mod/change bits of the game before so didn't have prior knowledge) and I'd be amazed if they didn't patch the console versions too. Although the first bit I explained sounds plausible (this is a known exploit afterall) surely the "fix" can't be so bodged...

Is there anyway you could have done what I have many many times.
Think I see a friend with the green name. What I am actually looking at is the name of a player directly behind an enemy. The green name for some reason shows up in front of the red enemy name even though the enemy is in front. I leave the player alone get shot. Then in the killcam everything becomes clear.
Like I said this happens a lot and does look like the enemy has a green name.

It is very fast, I suppose that is possible, but there have been a couple times when it really looked like a glitch with no other players around. This happens only once in awhile and it's usually no big deal, just a bit annoying.

I think the only thing you can do is ignore it. If it's only a little annoying, this shouldn't be much of a problem. Good luck.
