I have an issue with campaign that has me a little confused. It very well could be my comp just can't handle the game but I figured I'd take a chance.
In multiplayer my computer plays fine no issues to speak of but when I play campaign my computer will lag up badly to the point where it's unplayable even when you hit escape and are at the menu is is extremely delayed and jumpy. When I first bought the game it would completely lock up and shut down the computer. The signs made me think overheating so I got some better fans and it worked long enough for me to beat it a few times and just went back to multiplayer. Recently trying to play again and it's doing it again. You get maybe 5 minutes of smooth play then lag city - multiplayer still fine. Tried setting all the way up and all the way down doesn't appear to make a difference. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual core processor 6000+ 3.01 GHz 4GB ram (2x2GB) Nvidia GeForce 9800 GX2 Any other questions let me know and I'll find out, or if you know the campaigns more demanding than the multiplayer so my comps just not up to par let me know. thanks. |

Performance is DEFINITELY not an issue.
I would suggest doing a full re-install of game and GPU drivers to start with. After a crash, go into the event viewer and check for any problems. This can give you a good starting point.

There's no solid action here, but very credible speculation:
That GFX card is notorious (like, I can't emphasise that enough) for doing two things: * Getting very hot (and when they get too hot, they go into a sort of "safety mode" which slows them down by about 6 fold. What causes the problem is one moment the computer has 100% performance and suddenly it only has 13% and so everything just piles up, hence it takes ages to exit) as afterall it's two high performance GPUs stuck on one PCB with one cooler. * Giving dodgy FPS, particularly in COD games (roughly COD4 era though, might be solved by now) HOWEVER by "dodgy" it's usually just very low, whereas your FPS is fine for a while, but then the computer seems to stop responding? What to do? * Find out how hot your GFX card is getting, "GPUz" is a very small and simple to use program. * Update the GFX card drivers (newer drivers = bug fixes and higher performance as the software engineers get better at designing software that makes the best use of the particular hardware) * R.E. FPS. Presumably it's fine, but then takes a nose-dive during these "lock ups?" Use a program such as "FRAPs" to see your FPS in real time and make a note of what sort of FOS you get when it runs fine and when it locks up.

Thanks guys. It was the over heating again. was running 106C (max temp is supposed to be 105C) double checked the pci fan I put in by the video card and it was caked. Cleaned it off and it's maxing at 90C and games working fine.

106 degrees celsius. Holy mother******* ****. That max temperature of 105 degrees is a maximum before the chip enters "last ditch emergency methods to prevent myself melting" mode (proper name: "thermal throttling") hence why your PC dramatically slowed down at high temps.
If you haven't already, it would be a VERY good idea to bump up the fan speed on your GFX card. They often come at around 33% stock, but you can go up to around 60% before you can really hear the fan (and because the fans are so small it's a rather intollerable high pitch wizzing noise) Using fan speeds of, say, 70% and above can keep temps down further but your fan won't last long if it's spinning at 100%...
