This is probably a total amateur question, but I need the answer so I am going to ask it anyway. I have a virus on my computer and I may need to do a system restore. Do I have to back up any files on my computer to save my multiplayer profile on Steam? I have prestiged a couple times and I would rather not have to be go back and do everything again just because my roommate clicked on the wrong link. Are there any files on my computer that I should save? I don't care about the single-player games, just my multiplayer profile.

By default, the Steam Cloud is activated in the options menu. It automatically uploads your ingame progress to the Steam servers when you close Steam. That means that you can safely erase your HDD without losing your progress.
Just make sure that this option is actually activated. (View -> Settings -> Downloads+Cloud -> Enable Steam Cloud synchronization)

Woah wait wait wait WAIT A SECOND. Does this mean I can turn steam cloud OFF (and therefore be immune to the bug/"inconvinience" that prevents me from undoing rank-hacks) and still play MW2? I'm assuming MW2 & steam, the communist program that they are , would force you to enable it in order to play.
