I was wondering if anyone was having problems MW2 after downloading the Mafia II game from Steam, Nvidia was offering a free d/l after buying a new card. I d/l from Steam, and kept having lockups to the desktop. Twice a pop up showed and reported a DirectX problem, in Event Viewer it keeps showing up as a problem with IW4mp.exe. Mafia II installed a version of DirectX, thats dated 7/7/2010, thats for the display module only. Any ideas on this.

Some things you could do:

* Update DX via the MS website (not a bad starting point)
* Make sure your GFX card drivers are up to date
* A system restore to before mafia wars (this would put all programs & drivers back to exactly how they were before you installed mafia wars)

As it turns out I was able to restore the system to before I d/l Mafia2, I was still have the occasional crash to desktop and then i started getting totally black screens, I did some research and part of the problem seems to be the Realtek drivers and problems with the Nvidia 470 cards, I had a Diamond sound card from an old system, installed that and turned off the Realtek built in, so far so good.
