When I start mw2: multi-player, it shows that steam is connecting to it, then I get a disc read error a couple seconds after. I have Windows Vista 64-bit. I've tried reinstalling, integration of files on steam and some random stuff
I would hope would work. Help would greatly be appreciated. Last edited by th3chex; 10-11-2010 at 07:52 PM. |

I start multiplayer, then it goes back to my desktop, after a while a message pops up saying Disc read error. The day that happened, my computer fell and hit the ground so that could be the cause but I was still able to finish the game. |

Well, after some research (Google ftw?) I found it was a known error. No one had discovered how to rectify the problem but a common trend was that no one ever bothered to check their firewall/anti-virus.
Considering how the error only occurs in Multi-player it wouldn't be surprising if that was the cause. |

I'm pretty sure that your computer hitting the floor is a problem. Another case of lack of common sense.

The only people who experience this problem are using Vista/7 x64. The general fix is installing XP, but this shouldn't be necessary considering that most people do not have this issue (myself included).
- Check that drivers are up to date. - Run Steam and/or Modern Warfare 2 with/without compatibility mode for XP. - Update Windows. Its Vista, 'nuff said. - Uninstall your Anti-Virus (temp.). This may seem like an extreme step but I have seen cases where disabling it wasn't enough due to conflicts with Vista's security.
