My connection fluctuates, some days Open, others Moderate, so I know it's possible for my system to get an Open NAT.
I've put my PS3 in the router's DMZ, it has a static IP address and I've been on the tech forum of my router's manufacture and opened all of the necessary ports. It's made no difference, still get a varying NAT. Bloody annoying because when I have a Moderate one I can't invite any friends to my party and we all know how sad a one man party is. Anyone got any further suggestions? Any help much appreciated

Mine also fluctuates between Open and Moderate. However, I don't experience the same problems you do. In my experience, having moderate NAT changes nothing.
If you have tried everything, except changing hardware I presume, then either you give up and settle for what you have, or buy new hardware.

Enable UPNP on your router.
Thats the only thing different that I have than you. But like you, mine still sometimes goes to moderate, but not very often. |

Mine seems to always go to Moderate pretty late in the day, I have no idea why O_o, I do seem to lag more with moderate settings but I can still invite people and all that.

I too am having the issue with NAT changing from open to strict. Oddly, I can connect to Voodoo, but not a guy in Arizona. UPNP is enabled on my router but it doesn't make a difference and after looking at the port forwarding website I decided I don't care enough to go through it. Never had it go moderate before.
If you have gone through all the known fixes and it still changes daily, like wunda said, it might be hardware. The power of deduction! |

On PC, I experience problems similar to Ghost regularly. Often I can connect to people in the US and mainland Europe, but not people who live a few hours down the road in London, even when my NAT is showing as "Open".

Mine is set at strict no matter what I do, and I still don't have any of the issues you guys have.

Thanks for the responses, seems it's a bit of an anomaly.
I have literally tried everything - the router has been changed, the cable modem was changed for another reason, and I even upgraded to a Ps3 slim a few months back so I can pretty much discount hardware as the problem. Seeing as people describe varying amounts of success with all NAT types it sounds like one of those weird problems no one can quite solve. On the subject of geography, my bro lives in Australia (I'm in the UK) and we play spec ops together quite happily, yet another player in the UK is unable to connect to me. I'll put it down to Sod's law and forget about it.
