Default Steam/Mw2 takes...

So long to load. Ever since I got on as of November 19, 2010 it takes mw2 10+ minutes to load, and steam at least 8.

Nothing has changed on my computer, I've tried everything I can think of.

Buy Black Ops.

Low HDD space? Is the HDD busy when you aren't doing anything? Anti-virus scanning? Something HDD related maybe?

Scanned for viruses, all that happened was I stopped using my comp for a little bit...

Could you dumb down the HDD thing? When it comes to the technical terms of PC I'm kinda not up there...

Doubt it's a hdd problem. A lack of ram could be causing this issue though. What are your pc specs?

Also, is steam being ran at startup? I have personally found that steam makes startup a lot longer.

Steam is not being run at startup, and I have plenty of RAM. This is why it's so confusing to me...

Check that your fans aren't full of dust, overtemps can cause the computer to slow dramatically.

I've figured out that once I get it up once, it can load without a problem as long as I don't log off that user.

Strange.

My fans are clear, I try my best to keep them that way.

TBH this just sounds like a slow/old computer. Slow RAM, not much RAM, slow HDD with not much space etc.

Let's not forget how dumb inefficient (actually, no) dumb steam is though. It will happily spend minutes looking for internet connections, updates, profiles, steam servers etc. Steam & MW2 have relatively long load times even on pretty special hardware.

Actually your last post is a little interesting as it may back up my slow-computer claim. When you say "once I get it up" (yes yes very funny) "it can load without a problem" what exactly do you do to "unload" the program once you've "got it up?" What I'm getting at it pressing the little red x on steam just minimises it and move it to the task tray (that thing on the very bottom right of your screen, probably has icons to do with the internet and anti virus in it and a LOT of other unnecessary, system resource hogging, crap) Therefore pressing the red x and then starting mw2/steam again a bit later (as long as you don't log off or turn off the PC) will load up significantly quicker than any other scenario as the program is really just minimised. Also, since you've opened it once, even if you right click > exit the icon in the task tray, some bits of the program will be put in the "page file" (technical term) for extra-fast loading the next time you use it (again as long as you don't log off/switch off the PC)
