I just thought I'd start a thread for those, like me who started at MW2 and were thinking about checking some of the earlier stuff for the first time.

I started the CoD series at MW2 and I just got CoD4 the other day. Wasn't sure what to expect as it's sometimes harder going back to play older games that often have less refined mechanics and dated graphics / sound, modeling, etc.

I got CoD Classic a few weeks ago on PS3 and while it probably would be cool from a nostalgia point of view from someone in love with the game back in 2003, it was pretty damn dull for me, so going into CoD4 I was pretty apprehensive.

But fortunately, it works damn well - if you haven't played CoD4 yet, give it a go - it kicks arse hard for a 2-3 year old game. The campaign was cool - nice to get a background on some of the characters. All the polish and detail that makes the MW2 campaign work so well is all there. Come to think of it, I don't see any real major advancement in terms of technology with MW2. It's pretty much like for like, despite the age gap. It's still a big dumb story, but a lot of fun!

The Multiplayer, I confess I haven't played much of - so far it works well and feels very familiar. Something's different though - I guess it seems perhaps a little less exciting than MW2 in terms of gameplay, but that is no comparison to the way it feels like I've got a new map pack to play

Anyone else started at MW2 and gone back to see what all the fuss was about with CoD4?

i started playing COD4 one month before W@W came out. i only ranked up to like a level 25 on multi-player. i havent gone back to play it since but you may have given me some motivation lol

I've had CoD4 a few months after it was released, and I played the beta of WaW and got the game on release (or very soon after, I can't remember). Played CoD4 again recently, and all I could really think was "I hate Bog", "Marines have WAY better camouflage than OpFor", and "The G36C's recoil is tiny". Oh, and "FUCK GRENADES".

Haven't played WaW recently, though. I only played 4 because a friend of mine hasn't got MW2. (says he might get it though, yay!)

You played WAW and then didn't go back to COD4?

COD:WAW was pretty appaling in terms of multiplayer. I played WAW for about 2 weeks then got bored and went back. I then played COD4 for another year straight until I got MW2.

Seriously, when you get into COD4 and you start getting good you will never play anything else.

I had CoD4 since a few days after it was released but I haven't really played it very much, my only big accomplishment was unlocking the golden AK-47. I then got a lvl 55 "hack" with everything unlocked

Used to be my favourite game but now I hate it a lot. Probably still probably my favourite Call Of Duty game out of them all. And still, it's one of the best online FPS games released ever! To get the true Call Of Duty experience you must play it!

I played like 3 hours worth of CoD4 on both PS3 and 360 back when it came out, I loved it but then I just stopped playing.

Now I'm trying to get back into it but I get my ass raped so badly sometimes because I don't know the maps.

I played the hell out of cod4 on my ps3 when it first came out. Since then I bought an xbox and MW2, after hours of gameplay got bored and bought cod4 used at gamestop for $15. Such a refreshing experience! Guys if you sold your copy and haven't played in a while or never played at all I think it's an absolute steal for $15. MW2 has a lot of unique things to offer that COD4 does not but don't let it's age fool you, as far as gameplay and first person shooters go it's still easily top 5 all time on my list!

Instead of MW I was playing Crysis (which apparently released about a week later) right up until WaW then MW2. Personally I think Crysis looks better for an older game.

I can play the first Crysis on relatively high settings on just a GTS250, at 1680x1050. No AA or AF, nothing special, but it is easily playable.

It did look brilliant, I have to say. But then again, won't most games set in a luscious jungle setting look better than any CoD game.

I've seen the previews for the upcoming crysis game. Looks really great... Wish they would put it on console but I've heard that none of the current consoles are able to run it. Any truth to that?

No, that was the situation with the original Crysis. Crysis 2 is available for pre-order on PS3 & 360.

I'm not really excited for it. Both without a doubt look epic but the gameplay is meh.

If it weren't for the MP40, WaW would've been extremely good. I do private matches and trust everyone not to use the MP40 and it's seriously a lot of fun.

COD4 is WAYYY better then MW2. Sorry, but fact of life. It's balanced and endlessly fun. You don't seem to get the douchey players as much on it. Mainly because there aren't crazy killstreaks or perks or OMALOLOMGROFLMAO*#@*&#&^#@*&$^%^W^%$#@. Sorry, got a bit carried away....... I do like MW2 quite a lot, but COD4 was always my first love.......
