COD1,UO,2 appreciation thread

What's the most important thing about a game?

I'll save the "why I think they are amazing" speech for another day, but these 3 games are very arguably equal or even better than recent CODs. COD1, UO and 2 are just epic in every single way.



COD2 - The entire british campaign in africa. The graphics look impressive now, still. Seriously the shadows/lighting on the, like, 25 vs 25 tank battle mission are amazing. D-day, there are a million WW2 games and they've virtually all done D-day but COD2's is the best by far in terms of the massive scale, the graphics, the actual missions and objectives. And who can forget the months spent OHK'ing the enemy from the other side of the map with a Kar98k from a pro climb-ladder-to-bash-enemy-to-hop-onto-roof-to-prone-to-crouch-and-lean-to-headshot-to-30-yard-no-scope. COD2 players >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MW/MW2/WaW players.

COD1/UO - where to begin. Literally where, of the 40+ missions do I begin...


With the exception of COD4, no other COD games have been as "epic" as COD1, UO and 2. Sure they may have had better graphics and been more "fun" for average joe, but none have been as epic.

Plus the Lee-Enfield, I loved it so much

That Russian level where you had to hold a building from the incoming "Jerry" ^_^ infantry, where once they got close to the building they would start to come in several random entrances so you had to constantly check your back and fight them off from inside the building as well as snipe the other incoming waves of infantry. Can't remember what that level was called.

I like how in CoD original, you needed med packs to stay alive, you had to think twice before going rambo on the enemy, I was much more cautious/alert cause of that.

Apart from med packs (which is really a small change) the core game (SP) really has not changed until the stupid removal-of-some-of-the-best-bits-to-make-more-profit scheme from MW2.

Going prone changed slightly, you just lie down rather than do an epic dive for cover (which is much better given the chaos of a WW2 game...)
COD1 had no-ADS whilst jumping which was removed only to be put in pro mod ever since
COD UO had deployable machineguns which were removed for COD2 onwards...

apart from those three (which are hardly game-changing) the game, besides the graphics and obviously the story/weapons, has not changed one bit.

I remeber playing COD2 on the PS2 and loved it but never fot to play the MP sadly. Maybe now I own a decent PC i can get hold of it and experience a really great PC FPS for myself.

I'm guessing COD2 is the better of the lot. Anyone know a good place to buy apart from shitty Steam?

Wow you are in for a suprise. They are a MILLION MILES apart.

I see you live near trent - that was, albeit "oop north," still in england last time I checked. Look in game? failing that you can get it off amazon really easily. It's like COD1, UO and 2 for a tenner or something.

Just D/Led and played the COD2 demo and it seems quite good (for a pretty old game obviously).

Haha, the river Trent which the name refers to is in the Midlands. Only about 30 mins drive to Birmingham.

My local gamestores are pretty rubbish so I'll check on Amazon. Sounds like a good deal if it's still on.

Edit: Can get all three for ~£13 on Amazon. Found COD4 GOTY on another site for £15 aswell at the same time

Every single time I died it was purely down to me against the enemy. I died because I was slower and less accurate.

I did not die from random grenades, martydom, anything less than an amazing shot, helicopter, plane, predator, sentry gun, riot shield, claymore, AC130, chopper gunner, pavelow, hacking, timeouts, host disconnected, lobby randomly failing, nuke, throwing knife, automatic weaponary, shotguns, akimbo shotgun from a mile away and I'm sure much more.

AND all of that happened with a ping of 50 to 60.

OMG. This is fantastic.

Reliving a few years ago playing COD online with best friend, Yellow card Ocean Avenue/Linkin Park In The End etc. All of the amazingness that COD2 ever was but this time I'm playing on a high end computer with a gaming mouse which my god makes a difference to bolt actions...

Just because you said that I'm about to go out and see if, by a miracle, my local game store has any older COD games. If not I'll have to order them and wait til at least Friday

Ordering tonight off probably Amazon and will have to wait.

Call of Duty 2 was absolutely epic I think I've played through that game over two hundred times.
