Default Scratched disk.

My xbox fell over while the game was running, and it got majorly scratched and doesn't work. Does anyone know what I should do now besides pay $60? Someone said I could borrow someone elses game and install it to my hard drive, then play with my scratched disk, but I don't know what they mean. How do I install it to my hardrive, and does it even work?

And how do I prevent this from happening again? I can't put it on it's side because that's how they get overheated and break, right?

Dont put it on an elevated surface? or get locking braces for it if it has to be put on an elevated surface (they look like L's and can be placed in front (and to the sides) to prevent it from moving and can also be used to allow air circulation underneath.

As for the scratched disc, did you buy insurance? if so it would still be under it I think (for a year)

- Protip: Buy insurance on any game you spent 60+ on, its only 3-5 bucks and will save alot in the long run.

As for installing to HD, I have no idea about that.

You could try the install idea, though i couldn't tell ya if it will work or not.

My advise is to find a used game/movie store in your area that fixes scratched discs. I work at a store here in columbus and we fix those scratches for $5 a disc. It used to be $3 per disc but once the 360 started causing that problem we had to up the price cause it's alot harder to get out and uses more of our supplies to do it. But first i'd try the install idea cause that may work and you wouldn't have to spend a dime.

Yeah, see if you can get it resurfaced. Takes a day or two but damn worth it.

YouTube - Install Games to Your Xbox 360 Hard Drive

I haven't done it myself simply because it takes up space and you still need the disc. But in his situation it may prove to be a usefull solution.

But only if the disc can still be recodnized as MW2 by the 360. I've had many circular scratched discs not even be able to be recodnized before i cleaned them so make sure on the 360 dashboard that it still reads "Play Modern Warfare 2." If it just says play game then it probably won't work.

Edit: Where do you take your games that it takes a day or two to fix? We do it in a half hour tops.

Ah, the disc works fine, I just heard it runs better and I have the space.

Place I know of (CD Shop) gets you to come back in 48 hours or sooner if they call.

Go to "My Xbox" on the dashboard. Push "Y" on the MW2 box where it says "play game" Then push Install game.

It wasn't on an elevated surface. It was just standing up on the ground vertically, and I was pacing back and forth waiting for a map to load and talking to my friend, and I accidentally kicked it and it fell on it's side and it said the disc was unreadable. The scratch is a full circle all the way around. And no, I don't have insurance.

I think I know someone who has a machine that gets rid of scratches. I'll probably talk to them first, then see If I can borrow a disc from someone at school for the hard drive thing, then probably take it to a store that can fix it. Does anyone know what store would be good?

And the hard drive thing probably works, because it still recognizes the game as mw2.

Hey I still need help with this. My friend "forgot" to clean it, so I just took it home with me. I don't know what stores have machines that fix it. If you could tell me what places to go, that would be great.

And I've been trying to buff out the scratch using baking powder and toothpaste, but it hasn't really been working. Anyone have any ways to get rid of it using household supplies?
