I know that the Tactical Knife attachment reduces the time between knife swings by 50%. But this would only be useful if you missed a strike.
So I'm wondering, is there something I'm missing? Does the attachment actually make the strike faster? As in, less time between hitting the Melee button and contact with the opponent?

I think it makes you strike faster. Use it with Marathon/Lightweight & Commando and you'll be the best player ever.

With the Tac Knife it's a short quick stab versus the regular melee which is a knife "swing". Sort of like a quick jab versus a power right hook, the jab will always be quicker.

You do knife faster, but the range on your knife is reduced. Please don't use commando, commando = AIDS and shows no skill knifing.

the tact knife makes all aspects of knifing quicker.

everything from the strike to how quickly you can knife again.

the reason being that your knife doesn't have to go back to a pocket/sleeve in order for you to use it again it sits in your left hand constantly, think of it like the snake CQC knife in MGS or a bayonett in WaW.

the trade off is that your range is limited to a pistol and without commando its semi frustrating if your next to the guy and miss, but its still doable.

Its the best setup to use if you are planning on just knifing because you retain the normal knife range, while still knifing quickly.

tac knife reduces your range of knifing (not sure how much). But its faster
the Akimbo USPS have both the speed of a tac knife and range of a normal knife. they are the best in run and knifing classes

I'm not 100% on this but here goes.

Like bullets in this game, I believe knife hit detection goes the same way. As in, if you hit the melee button while the enemy is within the correct range and angle, the knife will hit instantly.

I'm not sure if this is right for the melee "charge/lunge", but the "slash" is instant I believe.

To clear things up, only the USP's give you the "quick knife", but you still pull the knife out at the same speed, resulting in the same amount of time between strikes. I.E. makes not a damn bit of difference if you miss, or have to knife two people, the two circumstances where the tac knife helps. Playing a knifing class without the tac knife will get you killed if you encounter more than one person.
