Does your own equipment register as an explosion when you are using a riot shield? I never really paid attention.

I don't think it does, unless it's a claymore/c4 shot by another player.

I've decided this from whose kill it registers as when you kill yourself with an explosive. However, when someone shoots your claymore and it kills you, it counts as an enemy's kill.
Also, if your own explosions counted as deflected explosions then the challenges would be completed easily.

Yea probably. They would also count as enemy damage.

I actually think it does, because once I threw a stun at myself and got the challenge completed where you survive however many number of explosions.
