Default Is it true?

Is it true that when you use silencer on a gun it reduces your range?

All it does is deteriorate the guns high end damage to the low end damage quicker. To see what I mean click on the link in my spoiler and go to the MW2 weapon stats. It'll take you to a site that shows this.

It doesn't mean your bullets disappear at a certain distance, if that's what you mean. There's no drop like in BC2

If you look at the stats when you are setting up classes, I'm not positive, but I think it just reduces damage.

It reduces damage over range. Thats why you see damage markers like 55-35. 35 being the least amount of damage it gives at long range. With a silencer it reduces the last number to maybe 30 or 25.

So now you know. Now go look at weapon charts.

Actually the damage charts mentioned earlier explain it the best.

For instance the SCAR does 40-30 base damage. Meaning 40 up to 37m and 30 after that. With a silencer it does 40 up to 12m and 30 after that. So the range at which your gun does maximum damage is reduced, quite significantly.

For guns like LMGs and snipers that have constant base damage over any range a silencer simply reduces that base damage. On LMGs it reduces it by 10, and on snipers by 20.
