I'm not well versed in what it takes to create a game or write the script for patches and what not, but I was thinking of ways to slow down the use of OMALOL that seems (from my uneducated perspective/limited knowledge of script writing) like it would work. What if the time it took to change classes was changed from 6s (regular)/3s (pro) to something like 15s (regular)/10s (pro)? It doesn't seem like that would require anything more than changing just one or two lines of code. Compared to some of the other solutions I've seen such as making it so you can't change to the same class or what not, this seems relatively easy.
I'm not really for getting rid of OMA or OMALOL for that matter; I was just thinking about it the other day while playing. The idea behind OMA is actually really good on principle, to be able to change classes to reflect the nature of the game. By changing the time limit you would obviously be destroying the true intention of the perk, but when was the last time you saw anyone use OMA for anything other then unlimited ammo? I've even seen countless times on here that if a harrier pops up or a hard to reach camper comes around, users will kill themselves just to switch classes so I'm not really sure anyone would be devastated if OMA was raped. Like I said, I don't really care for them to nerf it because on a bad day going rouge and OMALOLing is just plain fun. I do know however that if the time was changed to something ridiculous like 15s/10s I wouldn't waste my time--I would just run around with Scavenger on and hope for the best. Basically though, any idea how difficult it would be to amend the time it takes to change classes via OMA?

1. Take out OMA altogether. Cause, you know, OMA is up there with Tactical Insertions in the way of "nobody uses it for it's intended purpose"
2. Make Grenade Launchers a blue perk. You know, so you can't have OMA and Grenade Launcher at the same time. 3. Make OMA give you ammo only, not underbarrel grenades. Just some things IW could have done, if they had cared enough to make a beta test.

And not really sure what you mean by T.I. not being used for its purpose...but what ever.

I see what you are saying now, sorry...just wasn't thinking along those lines. I don't really ever encounter boosters too often so I can't say TI is an issue with me.

I tried using it legit once and it was pointless. By the time I needed to switch to a stinger/sniper the threat 9 times out of 10 was already eliminated (or I was) in the six seconds it took to switch classes. And in all honesty, I'm pretty sure I could kill myself, switch classes, skip the killcam and be back to life in under 6 seconds...of course pro is a different story. Summary--using OMA for legit purposes is fairly pointless.

Someone explain what the definition for OMALOL is.

Essentially using OMA to reload your weapon endlessly, specifically while using a weapon equipped with a grenade launcher. The user then spams the map with Noob Tube until all parties lose faith in humanity.

The best option would be to make the GL a blue perk IMO. However, at this stage, that isn't going to happen. (Thanks for the beta, IW).
One thing that could feasibly be done at this point is make it so class changes don't refill GL ammo. Problem solved, but who knows what kinds of bugs that would introduce. I don't like the longer class change idea. I use OMA legit and a 10s class change would make it pretty useless.

If you're a console gamer, you haven't been in a single true beta. All of the "betas" that you've been in are just retail builds available for download pre-release with limited features. In ages past, we called these demos.
The lack of a pre-release demo isn't the problem. It's IW's apparent refusal to actually make any balance changes. |

In a way, you're right. Especially with the 360, since patches have to go through ridiculous month+ long approval processes through Microsoft. I don't know how it works with Sony. It just isn't possible for developers to give the kind of support and quick patches available on PC. But Halo 3 and Halo Reach, for example, had betas which were designed to address balance issues, gameplay problems and fix bugs. I'm currently in the SC2 beta for PC, and it is definitely a whole different ballgame because they can come out with updates every week and keep tweaking the little things. But something like what we got for the last two Halo installments(3-4 week beta) could have helped with things like OMA abuse, Commando and Tactical Insertions.

If I remember correctly OMALOL didn't really take off until a month or two after the game was released--not that someone wasn't doing it from day 1, it just wasn't visible really until after the CP glitch was fixed IMO--so I wonder if a beta even would have addressed OMALOL...would someone have picked up on it that quickly? Probably, but it just as easily could have fallen thru the cracks. I'm just not sure a beta would have been the cure all everyone thinks it would have been.

Not even in Dom (for me), just in SnD, specially since you don't respawn. Annoying to run and be 4 seconds into the round and boooom, you are dead.

I use it, and I'm not really all that turned off by it either...it's always annoying when you spawn and get blown up instantly, but what ever.
My point was pretty much proven on here though that hardly anyone uses it for legit purposes...1 person I've counted said they do. I'm sure that one person would be pissed if it was screwed with, but for the rest of the people that spend hours complaining about it it would be a welcome change I suspect.
