I'm looking for a good all around primary that doesn't really require the use of SP. I want to make a danger close thumper/claymore class with a primary that I can use well in CQC or at mid-long range.
My first thoughts are TAR, SCAR, and M4. I'm kind of leaning towards M4 just because of how many people use the other two. (I know, they're better, I'm just wired that way). Looking for opinions and other options I'm probably not considering. |

RPD, ump, ak, scar, tar, m21 ebr, WA2000. The ACR is probably top 3 though since it carries its maximum damage over a longer distance than any other Assault rifle. It fires relatively fast and has no recoil. Even without stopping power it will kill in 3-4 bullets thus making it a very viable weapon. Sleight of Hand, Cold-blooded and ninja with a silenced ACR in SnD is broken.

If you REALLY don't want to use any of those three, then try the MP5k.

MP5 is a good idea too. It's horrible at range but I'll have thumpers on me.
I'm in one of those transition fazes where I keep trying out new classes and going negative every game Happens to me about once a month when I get bored and want to switch everything up.

SP makes a gun need about one more bullet to kill. The Vector fires at 1000 RPM by default. Stopping Power barely benefits it.

MP5K is working well so far (with Rapid Fire).
I've already got as many thumper kills in about 2 days as I have At-4 kills for the entire prestige. |

No it won't. Your observations from playing the game are simply misinterpretted.
People tend to see past the ACR's appaulling damage because with aim assist and zero-recoil it's particularly easy to land lots of shots onto your target, therefore resulting in a semi-efficient (but no way near as efficient as a TAR for example) The ACR does 30 - 20 damage. The ONLY damage multiplier is for headshots. At less than 50m it is a FOUR shot kill. Further than 50m it's a FIVE shot kill. Considering a TAR with SP is a TWO to THREE shot kill, 4 or 5 is comparatively massive. In MW2 a perks either ENHANCE A STRENGTH of a weapon OR they will COMPENSATE A WEAKNESS. The only exceptions to that logic are the accidental (?) and very rare exceptions e.g. UMP + SP = UMP with nothing. Likewise some attributes (e.g. a fast rate of fire) counteract other missing attribute (e.g. stopping power) and these extremities are how the game is balanced. Therefore to get a "good non SP" primary you need to find a way to make up for the lack of SP-induced-power. You now have two options: * Picking a naturally high-damage weapon (e.g. the RPD) and improve the other areas (e.g. it's high recoil with a grip) * OR pick another weapon which is extremely strong in other areas (e.g. the ACR's astonishing ease-of-use) and stick with very poor damage - hoping that the other strong points can counteract this sufficiently. I have relatively bad aim. However using a mouse means I can still aim well enough to cope with high recoil weapons. It would therefore be pointless to pick a weapon that has low-recoil as this is not a problem for ME - therefore a good non-SP weapon for me would be one with maximum damage. TL R / Didn't get it:* If your strengths are controlling recoil use a high damage weapon with SP and improve the other areas (e.g. ROF) * If aim/recoil-management isn't your forte you have two options: either make sure every shot you do land counts by using a high damage weapon/stopping power OR, as discussed earlier, compensate for your weakness with an easy-to-aim weapon. I should write guides, no? ![]() EXTRAORDINARILY IMPORTANT NOTE: Virtually every topic on any COD forum will highlight the "small" to "really rather big" difference between using a mouse and using a controller with auto aim (the amount of fuss the M16 in COD4 causes on console is ridiculous compared to the M16 on the PC version) and I therefore base the majority of my opinions on the game STATS, which are the same for each platform, and not my opinion of which gun is the best.

I've used the vector recently without stopping power. Had a ton of fun with marathon, lightweight, and ninja.
I used: vector silenced, revolver with tac knife, throwing knife went 30 some and (don't remember) less than 10 with it yesterday I am in the same boat, kind of bored with the typical setups so trying out new more unique ones Alsoo I've been using c4 and having a lot of fun. I think c4 kills are especially fun because the other guy sees it fly through the air and goes "oh shit"! C4 with danger close is pretty powerful it's awfully easy to kill yourself by being too close so be careful! should be fun |

I'm currently using scav (for more nades) and DC. The MP5 is for those close in encounters so the rapid fire is helping me out there. This is a Danger Close class with an MP5 as a close range backup, not an MP5 class with a thumper for when I'd like to nade people.

I use the Scar, for a few reasons:
- I like the iron sights - It's more mobile than a LMG - Fairly controllable recoil - Decent at both close and long range There's the obvious drawback of small clips/ammo but you can use Scavenger/Extended Mags to get around that. Although I like using marathon with it for some reason. It's been good enough to get me ~2000ish kills with it so far, so I'm sure it will do something for you too, haha. Just an opinion though, maybe test out a few and see what feels right.

^ Without SP the SCAR is pretty average, especially in CQC. As the OP has already given feedback on the MP5 (for good reason) he should stick with it.
