Quick Question

I was playing MW2 and my ps3 shutdown during the game. When I restarted, it bleeps and blinks red.

I am going to let it cool down and try again later. If it's not the overheating problem, do I lose all of my game info/rank/progress when I a put a new hard drive in since I didn't get a chance to back it up before it failed?

Sad to say it, but if it isn't overheating (half the time it is, half isn't) your PS3 is going to be bricked. Mine suffered the same issue, ran again for a few hours, then kept doing the same thing.

It happens when the thermal paste wears out and overheats easily, or the blu-ray player craps out. Now is the time where you need to see if your PS3 is still in warranty, get the proof of purchase, and just be ready to get Sony to get you a coffin.

As far as data goes, you will lose everything on your PS3 hard drive, but online ranks and unlocks will remain unaffected, since they are bonded with your PSN ID. Same thing with anything you downloaded, it's stored into the PSN store.

lol, hope it works out for you, hope its just a one time thing and doesn't keep happening... just dont wanna get that yellow light of death or whatever it is on PS3.
