Default New sections or threads

I was thinking within the community section it would be good if we could have a section labeled maybe Funnees or something similiar..!! Where we could post jokes, funny pictures or links to funny vids etc..!!

Also in the tournament section, it seems as tho this is just for official tournaments..!! Since there is so many people who frequent these forums could we not have like a challenges section where individuals or groups from the forum could organise some matches against each other, hell if it was succesful we could even be having mini tournaments..!!

The community is still growing and being changed every day, the forums are not set up ideally (100%) yet.

At CoD4Forums, I actually took a few days to get them set up how a community would want them (being a member I'd say I can speak for most), and the staff and I got together to decide the best plan. I'm planning on doing the same thing for this forum. I'll take your idea and try to incorporate it. Thanks JieDee.

AWOL

Other Tournaments - Other (Non-MW2F) Tournaments
I'm sure we can change the name/wording to allow it to include clan matches.

Also if anyone wants to organise tournaments (you don't need prizes or to spend any money to have a good tournament, just a bit of planning and reliable hosts) then feel free to go ahead. If it's substantial enough we'll be able to support it and consider it an "official MW2 tournament" and maybe provide some small prizes or w/e.

Dunno, maybe someone fancies a go at setting up a monthly competition or maybe running a dedicated day/time each week where clans can just turn up and scrim.

I would like to see the general discussion divided into something along the lines of "tactical gameplay discussions" and "non-tactical gameplay discussions" (the actual names of the sections should probably be something shorter).

At the moment the threads that are potentially beneficial to my gaming experience and/or performance are mixed in with topics that are related to the game, but not necessarily gameplay (rants etc). I think both types of topics can be worthwhile reading, but a "tactical" section might promote this type of discussion in a greater way than we are seeing now.

Also, I think there are too many stickies in the general discussion section.

the objective there is very good, a way to seperate the rant/quick question threads: "hey wot gun is da best" and "i hate haxxxxors" threads from the more serious debate threads.

Apart from the name you suggested (which is a bit of a mouthful, but would obviously be changed) the only issue is whenever you ask people to choose or decide whether their topic falls into catagory X or Y, inevitably there will be lots of people who get it wrong or interpret the use/title of a subforum differently from those who moderate it.

true, and dealt with.
As I touched on earlier, there is a lot of confusion between which sections are actually for what. I mean the Mess Hall forum actually says "or blame it on the lag..." in the description, i.e. possibly a place to rant? However the Debriefing room forum's description also contains "Talk Your Smack and Make Your Excuses" which also suggests ranting quite heavily. However both of those, especially the tournament/barracks section have quite a lot of overlap and both seem quite specific towards team play, as opposed to just general TDM lobby-ness.

To the other suggestion (either in this thread or the other) we are not having subforums for each weapon type (AR, SMG, LMG, sniper, shotgun, pistol etc) nor are we have a section for each gametype (demo, tdm, dm, gw, snd etc) as this would create way too many subforums.

I agree however that it'd be a decent idea to have a sort of "tactical" section, in which a thread specifically about, say, SnD would recieve more specialised attention from those who care.

Thanks for your reply,
I see how increasing the number of sections doesn't make anything easier, and for people interested in either section it would just be one more page to open. That said, if a tactical section encourages more serious discussions then it might be worth it for those mostly interested in that aspect.
It's interesting that you mention the "Mess Hall" and "Debriefing Room" as alternatives to the general discussion. I get the impression that the moderators are reluctant to move threads into their appropriate section, which is possibly one of the reasons why the general discussion contains a lot of "noise" these days. If someone's thread is moved to a different section maybe they will think about where their next thread belongs?
I just noticed today that you are recruiting moderators, and I am guessing the increased traffic (and associated "noise") is among the reasons behind that decision. Maybe it will all sort itself out?

Since this seems like a good place to put it:

I just wanted to suggest making a subforum in the AWOL forum where all the forum games would be posted and they wouldn't contribute to one's post count.

I mean, "What are you doing right now?" and "Last one to reply wins!" seem like thoroughly engaging topics but due to the nature of those threads, they might end up pushing out the other threads that could lead to some real intellectual discussion.

Dr Leon - yes, yes, yes and err yes! Sure more moderators will help, but there is no harm in trying to reduce the cause of the problems as well as increasing the potential to remedy them.

Comatoes - that's a good and annoyingly obvious (all of the forums I regularly visit have a "forum games" section including my other main forum cod4forums.com) suggestion. Will do that sometime soon. You currently do not get any posts added to your postcount for posting in AWOL.

Cool, cool... I wasn't sure if you got post counts in AWOL or not.

Another suggestion I had was that you could merge the "General Gaming News" and "Gaming" forums since, each forum has 16 and 9 threads respectively. It might encourage some more discussions on other games but also clear up any confusion on where one might post a thread about a different game. I noticed the "General Gaming News" has topics that tend to evolve into regular "Gaming" discussions, anyways.

Gaming discussion wouldn't be right in the news section, "news" in the gaming discussion forum would be fine (probably not as a subforum due to lack of topics)

However the issue there is that breaks up, and de-values, the very well defined "news" section at the top of the site.

On the basis of how easy it is to have a go... why not. Gaming News is no longer. Will see if it works and if it doesn't, no problem, click 2 buttons and it'll be back.

I suggested the subforums for weapon types in my mod application. I understand not wanting too many subforums, but consider this;

General Discussion- 11,600 posts
All other forums COMBINED- 12,100 posts

In short, General Discussion is bloated.

You've highlighted the exact problem, sure General will always be the most popular, but we might wanna split it up pretty soon somehow.

It's just finding a viable way to split it up.

Sure thing, but how many threads are actually specifically aimed towards the discussion of one gun? I'd say <15%. I'll think about some stuff and write up a new categorized version of what we already have.

I see what you did there... but, one quirk, I went into the MW2 News section and it has general gaming news articles in there, now. I don't know, though. Have those threads always been there or did they accidentally go into that forum when you merged the Gaming and General Gaming News forums? Because there are a lot of topics that need to get moved to the Gaming section if they were accidentally left behind in the MW2 News section...

When I saw that "Spec Ops: The Line" thread in the MW2 news section, I thought it was some announcement for Spec Ops DLC that was coming out.

We'll assume that was an accident, me pressing the button or w/e

Since the news forum is closed & hidden though we might find the news bot just chucks stuff in the next-nearest forum or w/e

Upon looking through the news bot's entries, it is actually quite a nice assest to the site to have a non-MW2 news feed...

I disagree - I think the problem is that there are too many redundant forums / sub forums.

If General is bloated, it's out of convenience for the average poster more than anything else. If you have too many forums / sub forums, most people are going to get confused and/or not care and post in "general" anyway.

I don't see the need for any more than the following forums (and no sub sub forums, etc):

- News
- General
- Guides / Resources
- Tech Issues
- Recruitment
- Off Topic (AWOL)

Just my .02 cents
