Can anyone explain to me their purpose and how they work?

I find it kinda confusing too, all i know is that you get points for making posts and for making new threads and things like that. I would still like to know what points for user means though...

For example, what are user points? Snufflz said he posted like 5 times outside of AWOL and has over 1k points. I'm not getting it.

They have this on another vBulletin forum I mod on. It's just supposed to be something fun I think. You get points for everything..making posts, creating threads, adding friends, making blogs etc etc. It contributes to your level (see orange bar). And you get awards for certain things too---based on activity, reputation etc (they change hands at the drop of the hat). I learned to ignore them long ago lol

Ignore the points. they will be going away. Levels will stay but I have no plan to implement a point system since I have no plans to have a 'shop' or marketplace of any kind. Points are a currency system essentially but we wont be using them.

The points seem fairly arbitrary, i'd support getting rid of them. They don't see to do anything except epeen.

The points and level system is useless is some people are gettin 1,300 as soon as there account has been moved over. Ive been 99% active nd gt 90 posts, completed all i can on the profile details and im only lvl 3 where people who are 0% active with 0 posts are level 5 and 6.

I think someone owes me 1,300

Points are immaterial as we wont be using a point system.

Postcount does not accrue nor do your posts contribute towards your level in AWOL and intro sections.

Yes but points effect your level, even if you cant see them they still effect your level

no, postcount on those forums is... well, for those forums.

And I know point effect levels, but the actions that give you points are what matters at the end of the day. We don't intend to have a 'shop' or 'market' so there would just not be anything to spend the points on.

(they are gone now anyway)

Then may I ask what is the point of levels? --just seems like an extra bit of 'side-profile' clutter to me. If there's no point to the point system than is seems that that 'pointlessness' extends to the levels as well. See my point? (rofl).

Some of the members recieved 1,300 points when their account was moved over there for boosting their level by 4/5 before they have even posted.

if the levels are staying. how do u go up in levels? by posting?
