A lot of you guys are probably wondering how changing the forums this epically could help.

MAJOR CHANGES:

1) Sub-forums added to Modern Warfare 2 News: FourZeroTwo's Twitter, Poll of the Week
2) Sub-forums added to Game Guides: Submit a Guide, Informative Guides, Tactics Guides. Informative would be more information based guides, like guns, challenges, perks, etc. Tactics would be quick-scoping, how to use throwing knife, etc.
3) Resources taken off of Media Section.
4) Recruitment and Tournaments now fall under "The Warzone."
5) Forum Games added as sub-forum under Off-Topic.
6) Other Call of Duty games removed and Gaming removed, both are combined under "Other Games."

Reason why changes above were made:

1) Notable Tweets is very misleading. That could mean they are coming from anyone on the Twitter community. Ours are only from FourZeroTwo himself.
2) Splitting up the guides section would make guides easier to find for users looking for a specific guide.
3) The word Resources is not needed and is very misleading.
4) Most posts that fall in the "Debriefing Room" are nothing but Gen. Discussion threads in disguise. I've set it up so that all user-interactive things are under one forum. The "Challenges" thread could have such things like "Can you post a picture of you getting a 20:1 K/D ratio exactly?" or something of the sort. I just thought that would be pretty cool because non-MW2F tournaments would almost always consist of something similar and "Challenges" is a better title for it.
5) This will separate the games that users play for fun and the actual non-CoD discussions people are trying to have, that way threads don't get thrown to the bottom because people are playing the forum games.
6) There's no reason to have "Other CoD games" and "Gaming." This forum is a MW2 forum, all other CoD games can be put with any other video games.

Again let me repeat myself that everything is up for changing, the mods should listen to some of this because it will help the way your forum appeals to guests and increase ease of access to the staff and regular members.

Feel free to look now, but I might of made some errors in basic set up, don't point out extremely small things like spelling mistakes or mis-capitalization.

TLD would it be possible to space the sections a bit better so it's easier to read, maybe use some bold coding for the Main forums etc. It looks a little confusing. ( not trying to be a pain in the arse but it would just make considering your information easier )

Haha I had it spaced properly in Notepad and the forum thought I fucked it up and corrected it. Fixed!

Nice format. I'd really clean up some of the clutter in this forum. Make my job a whole lot easier too.

To be honest I'm still getting into the flow of being a mod, really I don't see anything wrong with the set up you have at the moment. I'm trying to think of adding a section that wouldn't be ignored by the community or divide the forum into more unnecessary sections.

Edit* You forgot the mess hall.

Edit Edit* I'd like to see a section where people make their own quizzes.

The hell is a Mess Hall? (In forum terms)

The quizzes I have to wait til the mods get that whole idea going.

It still seems over complicated to me.. I dunno, perhaps it's just me - never really been that active on internet forums of late but I don't see the requirement for the amount of structure we have now or in your suggestion.

I posted this in another thread here but it's probably more apt here to explain my point. I don't see any reason why, at this stage the site needs to be any more complex than this:

- News
- General
- Guides / Resources
- Tech Issues
- Recruitment
- Off Topic (AWOL)

It's a nice idea to have a well structured site where everything's in a well defined place, but the more forums and sub forums we have, the more confused and/or impatient people become with finding the correct spot to post, so they'll just post in general anyway. Also, a lot of posts will not be seen by people who would otherwise be checking just the major forums.

Perhaps it'd be nice to have archive folders where mods could move aged but interesting topics to for preservation in a structured way... I dunno..

I'm not having a dig here, just an honest question - why does it have to be more complicated than my example above?

Those treads that are more about stories rather than discussing anything.

Yeah but that title is so bad, seeing as everyone discussion is linked to a story and every story is linked to a discussion. Examples:

"OMG I hate camperz! This one camper went 150-1!!!111one"

"OMG I camped this one time and went 150-1!!!111one, camping is awesome!"

You've got a point, but I think there should be a place where brag about something like the three consecutive nukes they got rather than having the topic flamed in general discussion.

I'm not 100% for or against it, but if you carry it out PLEASE rename it to "Bragging Rights."

To be honest, I see that people's suggestions were taken into account and doing this is definitely going to make the forum more appealing.

You're cutting down the main sections from 19 to 15. I can't really see a better way to streamline it, anymore.

If I was going to suggest ANYTHING, I would say you could even make the "Technical Support" main forum into a subforum under MW2 General discussion. As it is, you got two different Tech support forums... one for MW2 and one for general tech support.

Default Re: Setting Up the Forum

It is likely that little of this will be implemented due to several reasons, some of the bigger ones being:
  • Nothing is perfect but, unlike C4F, MW2F isn't particularly broken and doesn't warrant a complete redesign.
  • Many of the advantages are slight.
  • This design relies on subforums and with the way this forum is set up, not many subforums can be used otherwise the asthetics of the forum are compromised and catagories (an alternative to subforums) are certainly out of the question due to the skin's colour sheets.
The majority of suggestions boil down to changing names and definitions of the existing catagories and child forums, something which we can (and are) doing. Some things we have done:
  • "Game Issues" to "Technical Issues" and put "e.g. installation issues, crashes and patching problems etc" in the description so hopefully that is REALLY obvious.
  • Managed to find a workable way to add a "forum games" subforum in which the advantages to the members outweigh the disadvantages to the mods.
  • "Notable Tweets" is now "FourZeroTwo Notable Tweets" (notable is still there to indicate that the tweet-bot does actually search out MW2 related tweets so shouldn't get anything about 402 visiting his mum for her birthday or w/e)

That won't be everything, that is just three things we've done directly from the OP.

I'll give you everything but YOU HAVE to listen to me on re-arranging the Barracks how I've done it.

Fix it before it breaks.

I probably sounded a bit more negative originally than I intended too, nevertheless agreed, the barracks is in the most need of attention.

Whilst what we currently have isn't great, the two issues I have with your suggestion is that it seems a bit more compressed than need be (I understand you're trying to de-clutter) which would be fine if the optimum number of catagories for a forum of this size didn't happen to be 5 (which we already have)

Prefferably "the barracks" will stay how it is. In fact what specifically is the issue in your view. I am completely happy with "the barracks," it's the "torunaments" section which is a bit odd. It's just sort of, a bit vague and crosses into a few areas. An ideal, for me, solution would be to rename everything under "tournaments" in such a way that "debreifing room" is relavent for clan matches AND our own tournaments and others' tournaments.

Tournaments/Match-reports (obviously find more elagent wording)
- MW2F Tournaments & Competitions
- Other tournaments (maybe have this in "barracks" thus able to include "challenges")
- Game-reports (again, principle is good but requires better wording obviously)
