Suggestions for GD, Tac Discussion, Q&A etc - Modern Warfare 2 Forum: Free Call of Duty MW2 Community

We've used this little setup for a few weeks now and I think it has made a positive difference. However I also think it has scope for being much better, so what are you're ideas?

Maybe you'd like a Hints & Tips section instead of the not-used-much Tactical Discussion?
Although not used a lot maybe Tactical Discussion should be kept for those who do use it?
Maybe Tactical Discussion should be made a bit more general or even more specific, Gametype & Map discussion?

Seperate sub-forums for maps and weapons would be okay if it was used.

I think the Quick Question and Answer area is perfect where it is. It provides a neat place where users can ask quick questions without cluttering up the GD section, I thought that was a brilliant move.

If I had to choose, I'd put Hints and Tips in, and take Tactical Discussion out, since a good number of TD threads are GD in disguise. However we do have a Guides forum, so if we have that, then I think a Gametype & Map Discussion/Hints and Tips might be a little irrelevant.

Adding a specific sub-forum for Weapons would be great for opinions on guns, and equipment.

Everything is fine as is right now, although I can see people getting confused on picking TD or GD for their posts.

Get rid of TD. It's pointless. Most threads could go in either GD or TD. Keep QA for the space that it clears up.

Tidiness is good when sections are clear-cut enough for all confusion to be avoided. Anything less is just fragmentation which should be avoided at all costs.

There's a massive number of threads on 3 particular subjects:
1) Hate for IW
2) How much people hate MW2
3) Camping
as soon as one drops off the top-20 someone else comes up with a very similar one.
It's not a format-specific request completely, but please make stickies of these 3 subjects so the main body of the forums isn't taken up with them on every second post.

I'm not sure Tactical Discussion needs a replacement but it definitely should go.

Hints & Tips and Gametype & Map's could work but not sure about it as a spinoff of General - perhaps rework these kind of things into the Game Guides forum somehow? I would have thought that most users looking for this kind of info would probably start in a Guides section, not in General.

But as we've discussed in the past, the fewer forums / sub forums, the better imo

OK, this isn't really GD but were getting a fair few threads in GD about whether people have fixed this or that or whether/whether the next patch is coming. Could we post some console specific reports or announcements stating when things have been patched, the version number, what it has patched etc? It would probably go in news but then not all users check that section so maybe an announcement would do.

Also I agree with what's been said about TD.

Though I like Q&A

edit: TD is just confusing, I thought for like 5 minutes abotu whether to place my thread in GD or TD.

I think there should be a section for `venting off`, be it about IW, glitchers, noobishness, guns, maps and more importantly maybe a point or thread you strongly disagree with in the general forums, too many times I see insults in threads that are unnacceptable, just because your parents have obviously called you an idiot all your life does not mean it is acceptable to continually call other forum users it, it`s cowardly and shameful..!! This type of behavior should be stamped out of the general forums and be directed toward a shoutbox or `vent your fury` forum..!!

Yes, sacrificing one subforum may help to save the rest of the forum...

Could you make it so it is only viewable by members and not guests?

Therefore we lure them in with out nice forum and then once their joined it's too late!

I have joined a few forums where there are similiar areas where people can be abusive vent of or troll... Let`s face it some people enjoy doing it and to be honest, it can create a few good laughs...!! That way people can have serious discussion without abuse / flames, trolling etc on the proper forums and the moderators can make sure that happens..!!

There really should be a "vent your frustration/anger thread" It would take out all those insults, flames, and swearing out of the discussion threads

No it wouldn't. People don't insult, flame and swear in GD because there isn't a designated place for it elsewhere.

The insults, flames and swearing are part of discussion threads as a response - if people really lack the self control or interest to stop themselves from being abusive in their replies, they wouldn't have the self control or interest to keep it to a separate forum anyway.
