Default A friendly tip for mods

If you want an argument deleted from the boards or stop evolving, delete the whole thing & don't selectivly pick out posts.

Im completly sick of the selective nazi moderation that I've been complaining about on several occasions since I came to these boards.

Do you mean like deleting the whole topic or deleting every post involved with the argument?

If an argument pops up I delete every post that was either involved with the dispute or has no relevance to the topic whatsoever.

Deleting every post involved.

I know some mods do it, but most still dont seem to get that this is how it should be done & it's really annoying.

I'll tell the other guys about it, and I'll look into it.

Any thoughts guys? (mods)

Why should an entire topic be removed because some dumbass derailed it, and if nothing gets deleted, it just turns into a flamewar - the mods are doing their job.

If it's a young topic with a few posts then fair enough, delete it but anything over a page they should try to keep alive.

However I think that sometimes they are going a little overboard occasionally, and should post a reason for the deletion and help the thread continue gracefully - there have been a couple threads I've seen that have had a heap of posts deleted with no explanation - it puts a dent in the conversation.

That's not what he's saying. He's saying all posts involved with an argument should be deleted instead of a select few.

And we've been deleting and giving warnings to stay on topic.

I'm not generally active when everyone else is on, usually asleep at like peak time, 3am-9 am sort of here I've found. So most of the deleting gets done by the other mods. If I do delete something I think I generally delete everything I deem unnecessary to the thread.

When I mass delete posts, I usually delete everything that has to do with the argument. However, some arguments start because of a few quoted posts, so it's hard to delete a post when it has both useful information with an insult thrown in.

For future references, I'll start editing peoples posts, editing the insults out (that caused the flaming), while keeping the informational content of the post. I believe half of the arguments wouldn't start if people would be more polite to each other, and not throwing off little insults here and there. Even if you may not think its offensive, someone else might take it that way. It's futile to explain.

Gotcha - sorry, I was still waking up.

If that's really the case I don't see a problem at the moment. I've seen deletions happen a few times but it's always made sense from the perspective of maintaining sanity on the boards.

Keep what's relevant - destroy the garbage IMO.

Im starting to agree with char stop nazi modding. Vis is aloud to be a menace, but his intelligence confuses you to much to know when he is being insulting or not. However if another member is the same then it is deleted with out question.

You're right. Being wrong and trying to spread that wrongness to others, however, is almost ciminal.

Actually I rarely find ViS' posts to be confusing, quite the opposite infact.

ViS is also smarter than your average troll; he won't outright call you a "stupid fucking cunt" but he well get it across by showing how someone is wrong, which makes it difficult to delete as there is nothing wrong with it. Other members take the 1st route and this is what gets their posts deleted.

That because showing someone why they are wrong isnt wrong. People dont like it when they belive something but are proven wrong so they get all moody about it for example that CQC snipering guide.

There's always going to be a seemingly absurd amount of numbnutted dumbasses on the internet. There's no getting around it so you might as well... well I really don't know what to say. Fuck it, just continue with normal life I guess.

What are we suppose to do in that situation? Penalize the guy who's pissed off because he couldn't admit he's wrong or penalize the person who was right for pointing out a flaw in someone's argument. In the end someone's going to be held responsible for pickin' a fight.

This is it IMO. Unfortunately reality wont allow life to be that way but whether someone's right or wrong, doesn't matter - if they're doing it in a manner that will incite a flamewar then there should be something done about it. Saying "you're wrong and therefore an idiot" is an example of this. People get emotional, forget about the topic and argue about who's the idiot at that point, thus derailing the thread. This alone is the reason why many closed threads were closed.

There are those who can't handle being trolled and I think there are a fair few people who could harden up a bit. There are also a fair few who can't admit to being wrong and some who refuse to agree with logic. But being right shouldn't give license to be an arsehole. Following up a statement with an insult wont do a single thing to help an argument - it'll just potentially send it overboard.

I've had a few of my posts removed from time to time, I don't mind but I never got any messages telling me what I did wrong. And there's nothing wrong with having arguments I think, as long as they don't degrade into a pointless flame fest.

This thread seems to have become a prime example.

Posts such as the OP and most subsequent other ones are perfectly valid.

Other posts such as "Did u get banned/suspended/post deleted/thread deleted again for 'not doing anything wrong' " and "Did you want a medal?" de-rail the thread and deduct from the initial point or potential the thread has.

Therefore, despite being in the same topic and broadly about the same thing, the deconstructive posts get deleted and the non-rule breaking ones inbetween stay.

Unfortunately people post so much spam/off-topic/derail/deconstructive content that we simply do not have time to tell everyone individually why their post was deleted.
