Default A suggestion...

On another forum I frequent there's a section called 'The Tinderbox' for religious, political, etc. arguments about anything really. It's also an outlet for some of the emotions that are kept in check in the 'civilized' forum sections. While I'm not saying we should have a section where people go batshit crazy, I think a section where 'ViS type' discussion should be allowed to take place. Moderate flaming should be tolerated there, and it would help reduce incidents in the other sections I think. Make it a subsection of AWOL even, doesn't matter really. Just my .02

Also, have you considered merging other CoD games and Gaming sections? There aren't enough separate posts in each to warrant keeping them separate imo. Same with the 'Other Tournaments' and Tournaments sections.

On the motorcycle forum I frequent they have a similar one called Jo Mamma...... just about anything goes w/o reprecussions (except nudity and some other way over the top things). everyone knows that the section is NSFW. The best threads are in there and one of the best is the WTF pic thread.
Look at all the crazy stuff Jo momma - ADVrider

Would it really help though because most of these arguements stem from legitimate threads.

If a thread gets out of hand just thow it over there rather than deleting it or the mods taking the time to try to edit it to keep the relevent stuff..... that way it will still show up in searches when folks try to find old conversations and/or facts.

Well I also really wanted a legit debate section rather than AWOL but I guess a subsection of AWOL solely for debates would be better ;P

We had a Debate section back at C4F and it worked pretty well.

I can't speak from the rest of the moderators/admin(s) but I support this.

At least a debate section or subsection for friendly arguments.

Problem with that is, most of those fights come from legitimate threads. So people's threads where they ask questions would be being moved because someone wants to be an asshole and argue about stupid shit.

Agreed.

An off and/or ontopic debate forum would be cool and I would be keen to see it go ahead.

But it wouldn't be a solution to the problem of "over excited debate" in the main forums.

I'm not sure why this kind of trash talk should be embraced anyway. There's no reason for these arguments to get out of hand, but internetz is internetz I guess.

In regards to this, at the moment it seems mods have little choice - ban or not. Has a grey area been considered, whereby if someone goes overboard, they have their daily post limit heavy reduced temporarily? This would hopefully encourage them to make their posts a little more constructive in the meantime and not resort to trolling / petty insults. It would also allow the mods to "discipline" (gah - I hate the word but you know what I mean) those who soak up infractions without banning them.

This seems like a really good idea and I'm surprised it hasn't already been suggested.

So many threads in general discussion turn into "heated debates".

Which would people use most?

A) - ranting/flame-each-other section
B) - section to have serious, mature debates where people act their age...

A, B, B or A, please vote now...

B.... though there has to be something special that differentiates it from other forums / subforums. I would expect, for example that serious, mature debates should be possible on any forum - therefore, what would be special about a dedicated forum for debate? I'm not opposed to the idea but I think that there needs to be a little more to it.

"A" is just stupid IMO and as pointless as I see it, I honestly don't think this board gets enough traffic to warrant it anyway... It'll just be a handful of people giving each other shit. Whether it should be added to the boards would be a good topic for a debate forum though

That is a very good point - people should be acting their age and be mature when someone else out-wits them anyway, so it'd be shooting MW2F in the foot a bit to feel the need to have a more serious section. We have a more serious Tac Discussion for COD matters but obviously we don't have anywhere for, say, political debates as AWOL is overwhelmed by high quality topics along the lines of "stop crying about..."

I'd go more for a debate section about political things and... well anything. (As long as it's an appropriate subject) I wouldn't mind having strict rules for a debate section. (eg no responding to a good counterpoint with "your face.")
