Great software.

Double post has taken on a new meaning. I've bee on the internet and been a computer nerd since the late 80s and a double post to me has always been 2 or more identical posts due to user error or forum glitch.

I never realized that posting more than one separate reply in a thread was either noob or a double post.

Although OT me thinks this would be a good idea to merge double posted threads. So this gets my vote.

That is what I was referring to as well. I did not know it was noob to make 2 separate replies one after the other.

It's annoying to go back into a post and copy past a new reply to someone else. If this is a standard the forum expects then the forum should have automerge software.

This is the first forum I've gone to that had issues with this. And I've been a computer nerd since the 80's.

Not trying to start chit. In fact in the future I will attempt to not 'double post' and will edit in new replies. I just didn't know it was considered noob and looked down on around here.

I don't know where you've been but in general double posting isn't against the law, but it's frowned upon on most forums. Fair enough if you've been to forums that don't care about it looking nice, but "no double posting" rule is NOT unheard of.

Also it's not exactly hard. You can use the "multiquote" button (the square with the plus sign just next to "quote") to add posts to a sort of "cache" of content which you can then quote in one post.

[Press "+quote" on post 1, 2 and 3, then press normal "quote" on final post to make this work]

Sorry if that sounds like I'm having a go at you.

It's all common stuff except for when you makes replies to two different people in a thread. Never heard it was noob. to not merge those replies into one post.

As I started seeing automerge on forums I just thought it was a neat feature. Never heard anyone bring it up as bad or against improper etiquette.

I took me a little while. I always knew it was there but never really went to the trouble of finding out how to use it. You also don't have to press quote on the final post you want to reply to. You can just quote all of them, then press the new reply button.

You could do it on C4F aswell? Me is gonna take a look.

I've known about it just by experimenting on buttons in the past vB forums I've been to.

When a double post happens I just merge it for people, since they probably don't realize they are doing anything wrong. It's not even wrong really, just etiquette.

In the guide subs section I've got a "things you didn't know about this forum" guide that I've been doing for about 3 months now.

So yeah, automerge doublepost thing. I lack FTP/CHmod access which means an annoying amount of daily tasks require me (who has free time) to go and persuade someone who doesn't have free time (mike) to go and install the mod. On the + side I've identified a mod that should be suitable (correct version, addon compatible but unfortunately not an addon etc) and will pester mike later this evening.
