Is it possible for mods to merge threads rather than closing similar ones?
Make the site look tidier.

Interesting point. We can merge stuff but it often doesn't work very well (i.e. looks very untidy) because timestamps are, as expected, honoured. You therefore get two seperate topics literally mashed into one according to time of post.
I tend to merge what I can.

This is getting repetitive. |

I do the same thing as well. Sometimes it's better to just close new threads when an older thread isn't at all dead it, and sometimes it's better to let new threads go when the older threads are outdated and months old.
We do merge what we can, but as Abc said, it leaves the threads a bit confusing and untidy, since posts aren't organized like we'd want them to be. I just moved Jokers post to the older thread and it turned out quite nicely. I'm just going to have to PM him and let him know about it, and delete the other thread. Thanks for the suggestion! |

Like abc said, merging is rarely practical, even slight differences in topic can result in a totally nonsensical thread. Also since duplicate threads often have duplicate information the resulting thread would probably end up only being as useful as one of the original threads would have been by itself.
