Chatbox exposure - Modern Warfare 2 Forum: Free Call of Duty MW2 Community

Would there be anyway to give the chatbox more exposure?
A few ideas spring to mind, similar to the + next
to friends online a small "cb" or other icon that could denote that user is currently active in chatbox?
Putting a small preview in GD like the one in AWOL could work.
Even less intrusive but as effective would be a small chatbox tab that would show who is currently logged onto chatbox.

I understand, abc, you may not be able to do these yourself or indeed even if any of those are even possible, however I thouht I should put this in the correct section and put the ideas out there.

Like the idea. Also the chatbox option disappears when you goto new posts and there aren't any.
When it says no new posts try here. The cahtbox option at the top has gone

I was able to read at least part of your post and I am assuming you were asking for broader distribution/display of the chatbox.

The chatbox is (by design) restricted to the AWOL (General/Any Topic forum). Alternatively, you can load the full windowed chatbox from the nav bar link.

There are no plans and virtually no chance of the chatbox making it's way to the index. I could maybe be convinced to add it to some other select threads (BIG MAYBE), but my initial inclination is to confine it to the AWOL forum only.

Now for the inevitable 'WHY???':

I appreciate the value and fun of having a realtime chit chat spot on the forum. That's why we included a chatbox at all. However, from a site standpoint, other than being a hangout spot for a relatively small percentage of the member base, there is very little good about it.

- 1 Discussions in the chat box never become content for the forum. This is fine for general/off topic banter, but not good when questions, answers, issues, etc are all taking place in the confines of the chatbox - which happens with some regularity.

- 2 A chatbox on the index pushes down content. The 'regulars' in the chatbox aren't what a potential new member coming in from a search result or a link are here to see.

- 3 Chatboxes loading site-wide constitute a significant increase in server load and as a result page/forum load times.

We have a chatbox in a good spot to have a chatbox I believe. If you want to chit chat and just generally shoot the shit, by all means do so. The AWOL forum is precisely the spot to do that. The Guides section, the media section, the troubleshooting section? not so much...

The Chatbox on C4F was a great addition, it'd make this site worth using again if there was a good traffic flow in it. As of now, there's usually 1 (sometimes 0) good new threads made a day.

Obviously, it won't be moved to the top of every page like it should, because that'd be a sensible idea.

Another reason is: Nobody want to see fucking Colts spamming the shoutbox and don't wanna talk to me. That why the abc won't put the chatbox everywhere beside AWOL..
