Just curious as to why all the advertising on this website seems to revolve around Internet marketing tools.

I would imagine a good number of forum users are using adblock or noscript, etc and probably dont see the banners but if you are going to advertise, wouldn't it make more sense (and be more lucrative) to advertise games or relevant computer peripherals, etc on a gaming website?

And why the facebook links to WebProNews and iEntry up the top? I guess they own or sponsor the site but would they really be of interest to the average user here? Just looks a bit odd.

Not that I care at all, and I have gotten so used to seeing it that I barely notice, but just curious as it does seem a little weird to promote nothing but a B2B web services company and Internet Marketing tools on a gaming enthusiast website.

Because the company who owns this forum specialises in online email/newsletter marketing predominantly for technology/web-based products/services.

Also IIRC the forum adspace is used an as overflow for ad space from other errm... business activities as opposed to generating more interest in the site through refferals and affiliates etc.

Sure, I'd rather see adverts that benefit our demographic directly (ads for headsets, games, console repairs yada yada) but if corporate ads are what keeps our forums running and if that's the direction the people who pay our server bills, pay for forum software, maintain and design our forum want to do with it... well then that's up to them


I hope that's of some explanation, and also a correct one at that...


P.S. If you look around all the iEntry owned gaming sites, from C4B to PS3trophies to xbox360forums... it's all the same regarding adspace.
