I was just thinking that instead of a post limit if there was any sort of way that people have to be approved to embed videos into the forum. I find the people that come on here and spam the 50 posts then place their video or channel into a thread is quite annoying. They aren't making any contribution, even though that was the point of the post limit. I dunno if this is possible or even discussed before but with the recent spam by TheMagicalNegro I thought maybe opening the discussion back up?

Or maybe just for the first video or so, or something that will give them "approval status" like Kll131 and those who post good videos and contribute as well. Somebody who spammed to get there will obviously not gain the "approval status" or somebody who gains it but fails to do anything besides posting videos thereafter could lose it

That's basically what I meant. I don't know if there is any coding that can be done to prevent people from embedding vids or something until they have been approved. Then they can embed away. So lets just say theoretically that one time I got an infraction and couldn't post anything until I read the rules. Something similar to that.

I don't yet know how this could be effectively done. What we want to "measure" is whether they're a "subwhore" or whether they'll use the forum. You can't tell this by viewing their videos.

The second issue with any system that views videos before allowing them to be posted, is that they're in danger of being deleted just because they suck or they're not as good as others - and that's hardly fair.

On the subject of spam-to-50-posts, I agree it does happen and it's not ideal but for the amount of videos we get it's rarely such an obvious problem as what we saw today.

I don't mean approve or deny videos by their content but approve or deny people. Like new guys can't get the approval until they show that they are going to be a contributing member of our community. As said that 50 posts doesn't necessarily mean that they are actually contributing. However, yes, if it is too difficult I can see why it wouldn't be warranted.

ok ok... this thread, i kno is pointing fingers at me. but hey its not what yall think, im not just trying to spam out my vids to get famous. im not a whore like that. i actually joined the forum to communicate with everyone and share my input on what yall are sayin and recieveing feedback my vids. i kno it looked shady jumpin' on almost every thread n postin', but im not the person who posts a vid then leaves forever. Im here to stay. i kno it looked shady right after 50 posts; i posted a vid, but hey i made the effort to post 50 times and more then half the time was no bs in my post. So before i get the "most hated/trolled person" on these forums, im just letting yall kno im here to stay. Sorry for any inconvenience. Also i wouldn't of typed this wall of text if this wasnt true.

This topic isn't aimed at one person, yes the OP may have been tipped over the edge by one person, but this issue does happen occasionally.

So, this "check" on the user, what would that consist of?

Note there are quite a few variables that forums can be set "off limits" by, e.g. how long has someone been a member here. That could be useful when used in conjunction with a post limit.

All custom perms in the mod I was thinking of are based on post count.

The only thing that I could think of could produce some bias on who would be able to post vids. Cause my thoughts was a person wanting to post vids would need to put in a request to be allowed to post vids. They may have to reach a milestone before being considered but that would be obviously up to your discretion. Then the moderating crew, admins could make a decision based upon this person's merits. Since the moderating crew and admins are supposed to be unbiased this could be a legitimate process.

Not really just post in a secret thread asking for approval, if the team decides that the person has been of good contribution to the forum they are allowed to embed.

So is there no way to deny someone the ability to embed a vid until they have been signed up on the forum for a predetermined period of time, like say two weeks or maybe even a month. Also if that is possible the 50 post min should also be there just so someone can't sign up and then comeback a month later.

Another suggestion if it is possible would be to have a person have to make say 20 posts a month to continue embedding vids and to keep any vids that are already posted. This method would force people to stay active just to keep their vids up. And if the person is just spamming threads then you could just ban them.

Instead of post count, in itself, how about looking at the level, set a certain level one has to reach before posting. I know it does correlate with posts, threads, and other activity to bring your 'level' up and not as easy as just posting 50 times. Is reaching level 5 before you can post vids unfair?

The post limit + a time period (say, 50 posts, and a month) seems reasonable because then it shows that they're contributing and willing to stay. Individually they won't work but i think if you put them together it would be effective.. just my 2 cents

1 month is way to long.

Keep the 50 post count, but add a rating system. Pick one person who is good at the game and have him rate the video. Because many people have different reasons for posting.

L33t Montages - Get a rating or get deleted (oftentimes these are the people who sub whore) Unless it is a know guy on the forum (like let's say pants wanted to just upload a montage for fun)

Practice montages - 'hi guys please give feedback on how i edited ect' Just people who want to get better at editing, don't be so harsh on them (like my montages =P)

Commentaries - There are many kinds,
1. Commentaries like a football game that don't really teach you anything but are fun to watch
2. Commentaries like my tactical approach videos where i try to teach as much as possible (mainly SnD)
3. Commentaries where people ramble about aspects of the game (like my normal commentaries) with loads of tips ect.
4. Gameplay commentaries - People who want others on the forum to help them with their gameplay and give them tips.
So on and so forth
Then there are loads of other random bits, like Pub's random fun clips, funtages, gameplay guides ect.

You can't rule all videos under the same banner, since they all vary in what they want to show
