I have videos that i recorded on Fraps but they are 4 GBs each. IRRC, youtube requires 1GB or less videos for them to be uploaded.
How do i compress these videos but keep them at high quality? EDIT: Also, how do you edit .avi videos on a mac? i can't find a good free software

It's 2GB.
I used to use free-media-convert.com, but idk if that's still up/functional/free. I'd assume so, but it might take a while to convert an .avi file if that's what your looking for. Is there an option to record in lower resolution? I think i've looked for some decent software for compressing but they all kind of sucked... but i dunno. When I record it does it in 1080p, then I export it in 720p so it doesn't go over the limit...

They were recorded with fraps on my friends computer and then sent to me to edit, but i don't know any program to edit it with my Mac. either the sound doesnt appear or the video doesnt appear

No, i drag the .avi file from finder to where it says "drag media here to create new project" but it doesnt recognize the file (no error, it doesnt even load or anything)
my friend recorded it with fraps and thats probably why. the settings are probably on default for him ( i was at his house when we set up fraps and we didnt change anything)

Drag it to an event instead, you can't drag a movie into the actual project window... unless you're not using iMovie 08+
idk if it will still accept the avi file

Actualy it didn't work, the video came up as a weird green screen.
And the program works too, because i tried it with a different video not recorded by fraps but still .avi This is really annoying
